Icon5 need some advice...

ok, i recently acquired some dc sports ss headers and i was planning on doing the collector mod.

My question is concerning bottlenecking..

dc header stock collector is 1.9"
oem cat is 2.0"
and exhaust i plan on buying is 2.25" (apexi n1)

Now this is what im concerned about.. I planned on uping the collector to 2.25" to match up with the exhaust inlet. Problem is, since i live in california all the replacement highflow cat's are only 2". So i figured I would just stick with the stock cat on the car.

Should i even do the collector mod? if I do how much of a bottleneck would that be? example... header with a 2.25" collector running into a 2" cat to a 2.25" exhaust inlet.

If there was a california legal highflow cat that was 2.25" i would just buy that but since there isnt i dont know what i should do concerning the collector mod.

can someone give me some advice on what I should do / not do?
from what i have found on other forums people say to up the collector to 2.5" but my main concern is how would that work with a 2" cat to a 2.25" exhaust? thats why if anything i was leaning towards just uping the collector to 2.25"
ty...

MOVE to Nevada, no just kidding. Yeah that sucks, I would leave the stock cat especially since you live in CA, I lived in Germany for three years and their inspections are even worse than CA from what I hear, unless you owned an older car which is rare over there due to the stiff restrictions the people just recycle that old car and buy new. I even heard over there you have to get a modified car title to register a vehicle over there if you increase your wheel size. I remember cars that had a CAT on them had to display a decal on the windshield that said " G-KAT"

For the bottle neck, it is a 1/4 inch but having to conform to CA state laws, unless you want to change it back every time for inspection purposes.

Re: need some advice...

i would but that seems like so much of a hassle having to remove it and put the stock one back on just to pass inspection/smog.

so saying if i stuck with the oem cat (2inches), what should i do concerning the header and the collector mod?
if i had the header collector at 2.25" - 2" cat to a 2.25" exhaust.

u think that will be fine? if not only other option i can think of is not doing the collector mod which would mean
collector at 1.9" - 2" cat to a 2.25" exhaust...

ok so either way the gains are minimal. it is restricting to the flow and may cause so additional back pressure by going 1.9" - 2" cat to a 2.25". how often do you need to get an inspection? yearly or every two years?

i really think you should do the mod right and when it comes time to get another inspection just take the time and swap em out real quick.

just my opinion but if you are gonna do it you should do it right.

good luck and let us know how it goes.

Lets make sure I understand you correctly you want to modify the flange on the header to the collector to 2.25" then reduce that down to 2" at the stock Cat then out the CAT at 2.25"

So your worried about reducing a 1/4 at the CAT. Why not take or get a Magnaflow without a flange take the cat to a exhaust shop that can custom bend pipe and expand pipe then get them to open that 2" diameter to 2.25" weld a 2.25" flange on the collector pipe side of the cat, then do your collector pipe mod and call it a day.

Re: need some advice...

hey thx for the advice...inspection is every 2 years btw. how hard would it be to switch the cat back to the stock come time for inspection? i talked to my friend and he has a extra highflow cat but isnt exactly sure on the brand/model # so i might just take that and have a shop expand it to 2.25" if it isnt already..

as for now I think im just gonna leave the header alone for now until i get the exhaust system. bc right now i have a stock exhaust so running the header at 1.9" to the oem cat should be good enough for now.

anyways thx for all the advice... u guys gave me more advice then other forums where i had this same question asked over a week ago. only took u guys one day :P
