Icon5 knock under heavy acceleration

just recently sold my BB-5 (JDM SI) and purchased a BB-8 (JDM SIR w/4WS)...
took it to the shop and they told me of a knocking sound that my car was making...i hadnt noticed it before, but when u accelerate heavily it produces a knocking sound momentarily before revving...it sounds as though its coming from the engine, but i cant quite pinpoint it...

the mechanic said the boots on both sides of the front are torn and need to be replaced...could something inside there be broken/loose??? the noise only happens immediately after u accelerate, and u have to accelerate pretty well...it goes away after about a second maybe...any ideas would be appreciated...

ive been searching the forums, but all the problems i found that dealt with knocking involved noises that didnt go away, i.e. constant knocking...im gonna have the boots replaced and get the oil changed...ill be sure to check the oil for any metal shavings as well...that seems to be somethin to check for with most knocking problems ive seen...

thanks to anyone and everyone that has some input...oh, and pictures will go up when i get the car home!!!

this would indicate that it is more than likely your axle. get them replace asap. safety first!

Re: knock under heavy acceleration

Possibly the CV joints, but I would think that would be more knocking under corner load rather than hard accelleration.

Congrats on the purchase too, your BB5 was a realy nice car, can't wait to see the BB8.

Re: knock under heavy acceleration

oh, and i forgot to mention that it makes the noise when u first start the car as well...which leads me to believe that somethin may just be loose??? cuz heavy acceleration (actually gunnin it when i drive and/or just pressin the accelerator down in park or neutral) and the starting of the engine would both cause the most noticeable movement of the engine...and the cv joints were what i originally thought too, but i figured thats not it if it makes the noise at startup...

as far as the car, its same color as bb5...just has a couple extra lights, 35 more hp, a sunroof and 4ws...not to much visibly different...well, i guess the rims are different too, and they actually have 5-lugs this time!!! oh, and i paid $2000 for the BB-5...im even more happy cuz i got this BB-8 for just $2300 and it only has 76000km on it...

Re: knock under heavy acceleration

Wow, great deal!

Any other rare bits on it?

Noise could also be engine mounts in that case. Though I know my engine mounts are shot and tey don't make any noise whatsoever.

Re: knock under heavy acceleration

im pretty sure it was at detonation, but right now i dont have the car in front of me (its at the shop)...but from what i remember, its at detonation...not pre-ignition...

r8gyy, ill take a look into getting some motor mounts then...places here in japan dont have much prelude stuff unfortunately tho... :( might have to go the ebay route...

Re: knock under heavy acceleration

r8gyy, i checked for the polyurethane motor mount inserts, but they seem to be for manual transmissions only...im not to sure about doing the DIY motor mount inserts kit they have...might have to give it a try if that seems like the problem...hopefully the video with audio can provide an answer as to what the noise is...

Re: knock under heavy acceleration

have you also checked your radius rod bushings - they make the same noise - I just replaced mine 3 hours ago.. and yes - they do knock on acceleration if they are worn
