A foot above the max mark...

I'm blind as a bat....I accidentally* filled my engine oil up to the max and then a FOOT above it....I drove it for a week( I have a 5th gen)....lately I 'm noticing that as I rev from 2nd to third( I never go past 3500 ...EVER!).. a knocking sound is coming up...goes away after the revs go higher...some times it knocks , sometimes it doesn't knock at all....I found out about my overfilling today...so I'll drain the oil out a bit...but have I killed the engine? if I let the oil come back to between low and high mark on the dipstick will the knocking sound go away? I know it cant be my rods because I have too much oil..not a lack of it...plz help

Re: A foot above the max mark...

it could def be your rods, or your rod/main bearings, cuz too much oil = too much oil pressure. never a good thing.
drain out ALL the oil and see if you find any metal shavings in there, signaling a spun bearing, or possibly worse.

Re: A foot above the max mark...

Do yo really mean a foot above it or just exasperating it. Any way do what neck said drain it all and see what ya find i get a new fitter to and cut the old one open and look inside it.

How about no inches. Stay between the low and high marks on the dip stick at all times.
