I'm a klutz...

Alrite so my hot/cold slider was always a lil tight so i was getting cold and needed some heat. So i try to slide it over and apparently used to much force...heard something break off/crack and now i have no heat.

The slider moves easily now though...

Can anyone give me some guidance on how to fix this (i.e can I take the console off and fix whatever snapped off or will I need to replace the whole part)?

What does the slider mechanism control anyways? I think its a cable of some sort, is it possible for me to move that on my own to get heat until I fix this? It seems like its stuck in cold air for now.

Thanks in advance.

Re: I'm a klutz...

I have a 2nd gen so idk if its the same but the cable runs down to the side of the gas pedal so you can move it by hand if need be. and there should be a peice behind the actual console itself that has the slider and everything on it you will probly need that I broke my also one time but you don't need a whole new consol just tear yours off you'll se what I mean now like I said Idk if this is the same but thats how mine is I'm sure other people can help you out.

Re: I'm a klutz...

^yep im pretty sure hes got it right. the cable controls a coolant valve which lets hot coolant run through the heater core i would guess lol

Re: I'm a klutz...

You have to tear out your AC/heater controler be very careful when doing this because there alot of things you can break trust me I know lol. and theres a complete seperate peice that the slider is on and it screws to the controller I'll get pics and show you what I mean if I can lol. Like I said not sure if its the same but similar maybe?

Re: I'm a klutz...

Heres what it lookslike put together except for the vents because I broke mine off lol see thats why you gotta be careful lol.
Together Minus Vents.jpg
Heres what the slider will look like once you get the controller off.

heres where the slider bolts on the controller
Where the slider bolts on.jpg
Heres what it looks like from the bottom this is where the slider connects but you need to get the whole metal peice it screws on in the back. that way it'll be easier you won't have to mess around changin sliders out.
bottom of slider peice.jpg
Heres where the plastic peice broke off this is where I'm assuming yours broke. this is what I was talking about about the metal peice thats what I'm holding.

This is what broke.

Heres the actual slider.

Heres where the cable will run back through the dash.
control cable runs back through dash.jpg
Heres all the **** that conects to each other and this is where the blue cable that I showed earlier connects.
control cable connects here.jpg
Heres a better pic you can see all the stuff is right above the gas pedal.
better angle for a better idea.jpg

Welp here it is idk if it's all the same it'll probly vary a little bit but it should be pretty similar hope this helps let me know if I can help anymore. Later man hoep you figure it out. Skylor

Re: I'm a klutz...

Alrite, so the slider moved freely cause the cable attached to it came off. Put it back on and now the slider is stuck.

I also can't seem to move the thing that everything connects to (the thing under the gas pedal, mine is under the passenger side). So i musta broke something with that or somethings caughts.

Still gonna play around with it and see what I can find out...

Edit: I manage to get the valve arm to open position, doesn't seem to be blowing hot air :/

Re: I'm a klutz...

wtf...so i go to put everything back, turn on my car and no radio...it doesn't work

I have an aftermarket one, one of the buttons i press makes it turn on and shows a clock (wrong time) but then it turns itself off after.

I also tried plugging in the original radio too and the anti-theft light flashes but can't turn on either.

Tried taking out the clock/radio fuse but no luck. (The clock still works)

Ughh...i can't believe it I'm so unlucky.

Any idea? Should I try replacing the fuse or did I kick something loose when I was trying to fix the heater console?

Re: I'm a klutz...

You probly by my guess knocked a wire loose in the back somewhere I have the same problem but whenever I turn my radio on it won't get a signal unless you play with the wires behind it which I have to fix "someday" lol

Re: I'm a klutz...

Apparently my interior light fuse was blown (eventually noticed the ceiling lights weren't working) so replaced that. Not sure why this affected the radio which is a diff fuse. I also had to put extra tape around some of my wires from my aftermarket radio because they came loose and I think thats what triggered the fuse blown. But radio works now ^.^
