Engine knock , 98 lude???

This usually happens when I keep a steady pace...say 3rd gear @ 65kmph then I drop to 2nd at 45...upon accelerating from there on to third I sometimes( SOMETIMES ONLY!) hear a knocking sound..goes"tick,"tick","Tick"...oil was check above the maximum mark for sure....is my engine gone??? or is this ok? car has 186,000 kms. It's getting cold too...but I dunno..

The only thing i can think of is a broken motor mount, but it doesnt make a tick tick noise.

if its only knocking when you have it reved it could be your rod bearing or might have something to do with ur crankshaft depending on the condition of the problem most likely its ur rod bearings also as for that ticking your valves might need adjusting are you burning oil?

Re: Engine knock , 98 lude???

go to youtube type in spun rod bearing you will find vids of ppl with spun rod bearings watch them show you the noise in most cases they will get in the car and rev it because at certain rpms you will here the broken bearing or bearings this isnt an issue with oil it might be possible oil could of caused it but changing ur oil over and over isnt gonna make this problem go away. basically you have 2 choices have a mechanic rip of the block and check the condition of it and if it hasent messed the crank or the sleeves its in up he can fix it orrr if he cant he will suggest getting a new engine. im having the same problem in my 4th gen but im getting it fixed also like my engine your valves need to be looked at ive read in places that they might need to be re adjusted so that when they open they open at the correct amounts. im not all sure about it but just check youtube out and if this is the noise you are hearing minus the clicking which are valves then i told you your options on the good side you can run your engine with a spun rod bearing for a while without any problems you will have power loss but its ok. just dont beat on the car too much and you should be fine with it for awhile but dont forget to take care of it... by the way both options i gave you are pretty expensive my rod bearings are costing me 1100 for parts and labor and i dont know about the valves yet... hope this helps might not be soo accurate but its in the area of info your lookin for

please use some periods... the button is located two to the right of the letter "m". also, return lines would be good thats a big button two below "backspace" key. Lol jp, but not really...

Back on topic:
I would def drain a little of your oil and get it to the max line. I would have your valves adjusted, does the sound correlate to engine speed? i.e. the faster the RPM the faster the ticking? If so, most likely a valve adjustment problem.

Easy fix and cheap!
