Icon2 Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

Alright so I have come up with a plan to modify my old stock 5th gen taillights so that the outer portion of the red when lit says HONDA in a series of led's The plan I have should work nicely but is very time consuming. I plan on posting pictures with my Idea But I came on here to see if it would fly because I will be selling them when Im done. So let me know what you think Id love all opinions.

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

alright this is the layout for the led's. they would be in a breadboard grid. I plan on putting them behing the lens so all you see is the light coming through.

and heres where they'll be located

Hopefully that helps

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

I've worked A LOT with LEDs and unless you have them within three quarters of an inch, there will be too much light spread. You won't really be able to read the lettering. This is assuming that you are using 5mm LED's with a 15-45 degree spread.

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

Make sure they sit pretty close and you should be fine. with a 10 degree spread, as far back as an inch and a quarter should be ok.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

wait do you mean an inch from the lens? I plan on putting it as close to the lense as possible. if you mean the led spacing Theyll be about a half inch apart.

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

I just want to make my tail lights all LED's...not so much on the lettering, I just want the LED's like I see on the high class Infinity's and Mercedes cars... that would be SOO cool

j/k bro.
I want 3 lines of LED's staggered in each tail. I've been thinking about this for a long time. We had a member that was in the process, but he sold his lude for an RSX. ick.

Yeah dude chill out maybe I like bein ****in whack. Its ignorant opinions like yours and ignorant people like you that make all car enthusiasts look like Cocky *ss holes and I personally am not a Cocky piece of crap like you and I would appreciate it if any other ignorant A$$es would keep their worthless opinions to themselves. I can take negative criticism fine as long as its constructive. for instance. " that Idea seems to be a little tacky" but no you like to keep it nice and low on the intelligence level. So please for everyone elses sake don't talk anymore.

In no way that was ignorance. Dont use big words to sound intelligent, cause that didnt even make sense. Im fine with the fact that you want your car to look like that. I just gave you my opinion (whether you wanted it or not). So good look.

So how much would you all be willing to pay for your taillights to be done. keeping in mind the cost of shipping the parts and leds and the work that goes into it. and if you would want new taillights all together the cost of that. Im trying to see if this is worth it.

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

i would give the 300 for what the guy i talked to said he would do.

it included the cost of all the labor as far as installing the LED's in the tails to my specs, and wiring the whole car up with the relay and what not, and the cost of all of the materials. i have an extra set of OEM tails so its not like i would need to buy another set.

the problem you will find is that most people couldnt dream of dropping that much in their taillights much like most ppl won't wait until they can afford some retros, instead they buy the much cheaper ebay projector headlights.

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

well the way I plan on doing it will be for every 3 leds theres one resistor so there will be 21 resistors and 63 leds and I would just have the positive and negative wires coming out of the hole and you would just splice them to the positive and negative wires of the light that was there. now with that being said the plan would be someone would send me their taillights I would take off the lense fabricate the board with the leds on it put the lens back on and send it back you would have ti splice in the wires.(a simple task) but I figure with all that I could get away with charging no more then 200ish for the pair.

Re: Modified stock taillights w l.e.d.s

that sounds real reasonable.

does there not have to be a relay in the wiring somewhere?
