Re: need help, 5th gen down

That light would be the "Low fuel light" So I'm guessing you must have some sort of malfunction in the fuel system.... could be low octane, but I don't think that would prevent it from running.

Re: need help, 5th gen down

ocean,
i knwo for a fact its the octane, ive heard of guys running preludes on mid grades but never bottom grade, i know its bad because it was pinging and ****, the car ran liek complete crap for the 10 seconds i ran it, once it ran out of prmimum it stopped working, and it was popping out the tail pipes, it was a complete mess.

i have to get that gas out somehow. i had to leave her at school, how depressing.
good to knwo about that light, never knew about that. Its definately the fuel than, that light was bright as day. fuel still flows and all you can tell, it'll give you a sputter or two then shutup and stop, so im thinking if i can get ATLEAST 75% out put in the 93 and some octane booster it should run, even if its crappy, then when i get to half tank ill restock it with more premimum so dilute that 80 to a minimum,

what a crappy day, i even got my phone turned off somehow

Chillz:
i wish i could show you what happened,
my engine was rocking back and forth from vibrations, say hello to compressionized combustion!

Re: need help, 5th gen down

Ehh I doubt 87 would prevent the car from starting. Either something is really fishy with that Marathon gas or something got clogged up in your fuel system. It might be your fuel pump going bad on you or clogged fuel filter since you do have 205k on the motor. Let's check what Ligmen says though. Hopefully it will be something small :/

On a good note, my window works now :)

And pushing the car to school was hella experience lol

Re: need help, 5th gen down

I ran 87 for about 3000 clicks wondering if i would notice a difference. And besides the fact that i got hell of a lot less mileage out of 87 octane then 92. My car ran just fine. I drive an 01 honda prelude

When I first got the car I was running 87 for a while, it was to prove a point to my father, and the car ran and started, but it ran like junk, stuttering and all that, but it still ran...

Re: need help, 5th gen down

Yeah, when I first bought my car my mom filled my Prelude up with 87 octane cause she doesn't really care about cars. It was all ok.

So it must be you have a clogged fuel filter or clog in the line. Or a bad fuel pump. Anything in the fuel system.

Re: need help, 5th gen down

I'll take your word for it Tim.

Well, if you want to get the fuel out, I'm almost positive that we have a drain bolt for our fuel tanks, the same way we have one for oil. (I'm sure you probably new knew that though.)

Get it low enough where you add 93 and get a decent octane grade and then get it to a DIFFERENT gas station.

Re: need help, 5th gen down

Alright,
we pushed the car on good ol 72 to my school,
everything checks out, spark, fuel pressure, good injectors, fuel pump is GREAT.

the gas smells like cheese, its good to know our tanks have drain plugs, thats going to make this that much easier, the only hard part is finding where to put 12 gallons of fuel...

i dont even know who would take it off of our hands.

Re: need help, 5th gen down

I think its the fuel pump Tim. how did you check the pump by priming? if so then I want u to check your fuel delivery by unscewing the fpr. once the fpr is off have someone place the key in the ignition and place it in the on position. see if any fuel come out. then get back at us.

im pretty sure it wouldnt be the octane necessarily... even running low grade, the car would still start it just wouldnt run or perform in the same manner.. that could be part of the problem, but i would look into the mechanics of the fuel system.. check the pump and filter make sure nothing's jammed up or clogged preventing everything from flowing..

Re: need help, 5th gen down

Might be bad gas as in water of something if it smells like cheese. I would take a gallon or so out of ur tank see what it looks like and put it in a lawnmower or something and see if it runs in it might have just been bottom of the barrel gas and got a lot of crap and mess up the lines or filter.

Wanna know what I'd do with 12 gallons of gas? Drain it and sell it to a friend or my parents.
