Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

I'm about 2,000miles into this oil change and I have burnt maybe a qrt. I checked the other day so I put a Qrt in, obviously.

I'm noticing the H22 burns oil. Something I'm all to familiar with. [see avatar].

So would a OP guage be a smart buy? I just don't want a gauge pod in my car when there is no FI and fear of bein rice. :(.

Re: Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

Rice is such a stupid comment. I mean what's the person saying if they call your car rice, that it's white and fluffy?

Now that I've got that off my chest, oil pressure guage isn't a bad idea but it's not a neccessity. I plan on installing one in my car when I get around to it, and I'll probably also install oil temp (out of morbid curiosity than anything else) and a volt meter in a DIN sized panel above the head unit.

I couldnt agree with you more brash...I cant stand the word usage of "rice"...How i see it is people with a difference of opinion in a mod that they dont like on somebody elses car is considered "rice"...But anyway, yeah a OP gauge wouldnt be a bad idea, you should go ahead and get the OT gague too while your at it, cuz thats just as important...

Hey, I'm all for different styles. Rice is not a term I use, but I might accuse someone of doing the pep boy's special with paste on vents.

You guys recommend anything? If I get the pillar pods I don't want it to stand out so much. Just want it to blend seamlessly ya know?

I was looking at 60mm Greddy guages, but wayyy too pricey/.

Re: Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

That's why I suggested the DIN sized pocket in the middle where the head unit is. They dont stand out there, and while out of your main field of vision, it's not like you're going to be watching it as closely as say your speedo or fuel guage.

I can agree with you on the pep boys thing...But, yeah for guages man, look up megan racing....they have a nice look to them...I have them myself, just never got them installed yet...And the pods, when installed properly, will look as if they came with the car...

Re: Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

well first off lets get to the real problem before getting a gauge... right? if you went through a qrt of oil in that short of mileage you have obviously a leak or something else.
a couple ????
how many miles?
did you ever change your cam seal (the one over by the vtec selonoid)?
valve gasket?
pcv valve?
those are some quick things you can see from the top of you motor. if those are leaking then i would change them out first.
if you were burning oil you would have a blueish smoke come out of your exhaust while driving. another thing to remember hitting vtec does use up some oil but not the extreme you are talking about.

Re: Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

Using vtec burns oil so if you use it a lot then thats probably why your burning oil. If not, something else is wrong.

Re: Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

^ yeah it dose

I took off yesterday and my buddy was behind me and all i saw was a nice puff of smoke, but here is my thing, when i change my oil its where i filled it, my problem is no O2 sensors and no cat, you have a leak if your buring that much oil, valve seals most likely if you have higher miles if not id say good old valve cover and cam seal also check that crush washer on the oil pant drain bolt. we have oil lights, but i think thats just for oil prssure, it wouldnt be bad to install one, the pillar thing looks like poop some times, I like where brash said to put it, just look at it every time you start it up.

My deffination of rice is a tibron, thats all stock, stripped to the bone, yelow painted vavle cover, electrical tape over pvc valve, no hood, painted air filter, yeah the part that sucks in air!!!!!!!! and some kid who says hes got 400 hp

Re: Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

its the only gauge i have, but this gauge will not tell you that you are leaking oil. Pressure will just drop once you have ran the engine so low that it cant keep a constant pressure.

Re: Oil Pressure Guage Recommended?

so you've gotten a bunch of great answers. but since i recently had this problem you may wanna see where the leak is coming from. i happend to need a new cam seal. so i replace the stock sh1tty one with a golden eagle 3 ring billet aluminum seal ($20) and added some silicone to a new valve cover gasket that i installed. problem solved for me.

also VTEC burns oil very fast. i think think the OP gauge is a good idea. i plan on ordering mine real soon.

good luck

DEFI gauges are so nice but pretty damn expensive. if you are just getting the OP gauge i'd go with glow shift. i've used them before and they are real nice and much cheaper.
