Magnaflow Cat

Ok. So I've been on a shopping spree. Bought JDM foglights, type S front bumper getting ready to do my city lights.

Now On to exhaust. I bought Megan 421 header, Greddy Evo2, but I'm lost with the cat. I've seen direct fit converters and a universal. What's the difference beside the price? Will I have to do any fabricating at all to make it fit.

thanks guys.

EDIT: I bought the Type S intake also along with a K&N drop in.

EDIT #2: ok the cats I was looking at aren't highflow. So I need help jus finding one completely.

Re: Magnaflow Cat

direct fit usually are made to directly bolt on to your existing exhaust...i have a univeral virbrant cat myself...The thing with univeral cats are that you have to get them welded on, or if your mechanic is smart like mine, he took the ends of my old cat and welded them up to my vibrant one so it would be direct bolt on...Also, you have to customize a O2 sensor hole for the O2 sensor to plug into the cat itself....

Re: Magnaflow Cat

I have yet to see a magnaflo with flanges on the CAT so you will have to get them welded on. I did however find a magnaflo with the O2 bung already welded on

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAGNA...spagenameZWD1V

OBX has a nice skinny one but have not heard about if someone installed one yet and if they get a CEL.

Re: Magnaflow Cat

me either, I think I hear people saying it does not throw any CEL s, so I guess it can't be bad. I would just like a more finished look with flanges, I like the OBX I've seen on eBay.

My luck the OBX will have a huge stamp in it saying " Not for Road Use " thats all a VA state inspectors like to see then they slap a big ol REJECTION sticker on your ride.

Re: Magnaflow Cat

I'm looking at cats too (between paydays ) and here's a good high flow one I've heard good things about on various forums:
here

You will have to get it welded on I think, and probably an O2 bung, but any competent welder could do that no prob and probably won't charge you a butload for it

Re: Magnaflow Cat

i recommend the Vibrant high flow cat...like i said above, you would have to get it welded on and get an O2 bung...I think i paid $40 bucks for it to be done...big difference too...

So I still have yet to buy a cat. I haven't heard anything about OBX. So I found this. Any review is much appreciated.

Re: Magnaflow Cat

personally I would stay away from OBX, they make some decent stuff, but with some of their products big problems have arisen and I don't think I would gamble on that.

Vibrant or magnaflow. Magnaflow makes great products and it's a lot cheaper than the vibrant stuff.

Re: Magnaflow Cat

okay so i have the magnaflow cat on my lude. it did not come with the flanges for direct bolt on. but with good welds it'll be better. mine is directly welded to my collector mod and WS2. no CEL, breathes so freely, sounds great and i can feel a big difference. here are pics of the header to the cat back...

HERE IS THE MEGAN RACING SPORTS HEADER:

HERE IS THE COLLECTOR MOD:

FIRST RED ARROW IS WHERE COLLECTOR IS WELDED TO HEADER
YELLOW CIRCLE IS O2 BUNG WELDED IN
SECOND RED ARROW IS STRAIGHT PIPE (2.5") WELDED TO MAGNAFLOW HI FLOW CAT

Yo Bill question,

Which Magnaflow did you get? The 13" direct fit with the bung already on. Or the universal one without the bung?

Pretty much a flexpipe is a flexpipe. If it's name is "Papa Apple's Shin-ee Pipe" I would stay away. I think megan makes a nice one. I'm getting a 6" pipe.

i got a 6" flex but i'd recomment a 8" or a 6" with a decent amount of pipe on either end for the proper weld. mine did not have too much to weld to but it was just enough.

you can go w/ any brand. your local muffler/exhaust shop should have one for under $25. can also get one cheap on ebay.

Arite, cool.

I'm gettin the Evo2 and not sure what length flex I should get, I don't wanna over extend. My friend is dong the welds for lunch.

I'm goin with the the 8" flex and 2" necks. sounds good? Also 8" straight pipe. I need everything for him to do. Either way I'm gettin off cheap.

the collector should be 2.5" unless the exhuast and cat are less than that. make sure it is the same diameter throughout. and if you are gonna have 8" of straight pipe you should get 10" and cut to fit perfect just in case. leaves room for error.

it's always better to have and not need than need and not have
