$600...really??

So i went to a local paint shop to see how much it would cost for them to paint my potential body kit and they said around 600 as opposed to maaco who said 400...now i really don't want to go to maaco cause i would rather have the paint stay on my car and not chip off or anything but i really dont know if 600 is worth it to paint a body kit that costs 600 in the first place..any advice?

Re: $600...really??

Well, if you want your car done and done right the first time, then -- YES

What you pay is what you get (98% of the time) and in the auto world this applies almost everywhere and to everything, and paint is NO exception.

99PreludeSh does body work and painting, and she will say the same thing (although she would charge less and do just a good a job, most likely better) but unless your in the St. Louis MO area, that's not an option, lol.

Long story short man - yes, it's worth it, and it's what your gonna have to do if you want it done right and well the first time

Re: $600...really??

If you want the body kit done RIGHT the FIRST TIME - then yes

Fortunately for me I have friends that will do it for less, lol

But if i didn't, and I wanted it done to look professional, then I would find a reputable shop with good work to prove and pay them what they want

Sounds about right homeskillet

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for ya, but I'm just bein honest, and in the auto world, you want something done right the first time, it will cost a little extra...just the way it goes...

Yea....ummm...that $600 they quoted you on, did you tell them it was gonna be installed on the car before they painted it?

Re: $600...really??

well i said "if i got a body kit on my car hwo much would it cost to paint it" and the guy was like "well i would have to see it but i would estimate about 600". i mean it is a body shop also so they might have thought i was gonna have them install it also

Re: $600...really??

They probably thought you meant you would bring bring it in, have them paint it, then take it home and install it...

IDK honestly if there would be a large price difference, but you might wanna look into it

Re: $600...really??

To be honest, I have no idea - your getting into questions for 99PreludeSh (Steph) and I won't touch them, lol. I would believe it would be more expensive if it was on the car, then you have to tape everything off and all that, BUT painting it first would be riskier bc you can damage the kit during install...

Honestly, This is beyond my knowledge, so I will turn it over to Steph or Tom, depending on who answers first

I would have them paint it first, then install it yourself. IMO that is a LOT of money to have a body kit..

Re: $600...really??

I think it is too, maybe they mean $600 if it's already on the car, cause I know that you be more difficult then just bringing it to them and having them paint it

Re: $600...really??

haha i hope its a bigger difference though like i would love for it to cost 200 or 300 but like 400 would still be great cause thats how much maaco was going to chrage me but this local guy would be a much better quality

Re: $600...really??

Yeah, I'd agree with the others. If you have the kit off they can just paint it on some stands or something instead of taping off the rest of the car body. Dunno if that'll save you 200 bucks, but it's definitely worth looking into.

Did you getting the WW kit? You gotta post some pics when it's all said and done. I'm lookin at the same kit as you. Wish the OEM cam in the MRP color...

I like that option

Steph, any clue what a fresh coat of Nighthawk usually runs from a reputable shop?
Don't need jams or anything like that, just some ding repair and fresh paint.

Like ding repair as in PDR or just a little filler work?

And I think Nighthawk is just bc/cc and not tri-coat.

I'd say it's just about all PDR (Maybe two dings that need filler) except the hood which I'd replace before sending it to the booth.

PDR you are going to pay out the butt for. If you just wanted to re-spray and thats it, take it to a good shop and you will be looking at about $1500-$2300

Sweet, I budgeted around $2,500 for paint, repair and a new hood.

Ask yourself this. 'How long will it be cool for?' I dunno about you but I think having 1200 in the bank..or my wallet..is a hell of a lot cooler than a body kit.
