Base to SH swap?

The engine on my Lude siezed and I am looking at doing a complete engine and tranny swap rather than rebuild the one I have (if it is more cost effective). Anyway, I have a base model 2000 Prelude, and am looking at getting a JDM Type SH engine. I was wondering if the wiring harness in the US base model would be able to support the SH engine and ATTS transmission of a JDM model. Also, is there anything else that I need to be aware of when doing this swap (if it is possible without hacking the harness)?

Re: Base to SH swap?

ATTS transmission won't go into a base model car. The front end is all different and stuff (apparantly). The base wiring should run the engine, but good luck finding a trashed SH with all the wiring for the ATTS intact.

Re: Base to SH swap?

plus there are alot of different sensors that you would have to install. Better of getting rid of you lude now, and buying an SH.

Re: Base to SH swap?

Well I would think just finding a base or JDM engine would do the trick, hook it up to the existing trans.

Re: Base to SH swap?

this is not a wise conversion. too extensive and expensive. you'll need the SH motor, SH tranny, SH axle set up, radius arms, all ATTS sensors and controls, ATTS module that is installed by your ECU and than you have to worry about wiring the ATTS unit because your stock harness does not support it. there is a ton of stuff i am leaving out but you get the idea.

you are better off getting a JDM motor, and obd1 ECU, standalone management, and having it properly tuned.

good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Base to SH swap?

exactly as stated above. this has been covered extensively in another thread. the final verdict: WAY too much work the benefits. just get any H22, add an aftermarket LSD, the ATTS badge, a spoiler, pull the rear brake light and call it a day....or an SH

Re: Base to SH swap?

Okay, then how about just the Type-SH engine? Could I swap in just that without the ATTS tranny and have my current wiring harness work? I'm just thinking that the Type-SH engine comes with 223hp stock.

Re: Base to SH swap?

okay okay... first off bill ... youve been paying attention. and second.... they dont make jdm sh...its a type s.

now back to the topic at hand. you could ... swap. you do need the exterior engine harness and INTERIOR harness.... reason is ... you need the wiring and the atts control unit. you could though use and sh motor... and an base tranny. this would not need the atts control or any other crap. the motor has the same sensors as a base. just the transmission and the way it is controlled is different. and by the way a jdm base h22 w/ jdm tranny w/ LSD (better the atts) goes for 2gs.... and less one place you can order from is jdmenginedepot.com, osakamotors, or tigerjapan.

AND THE SH ENGINE COMES W/ 195hp stock
the type s is 230hp
jdm h 210ish??? hope this helps...

Re: Base to SH swap?

So it looks like I am going to just do an engine swap and put in a LSD. Does anyone know of a cheap (around $500) LSD that is good quality?

Re: Base to SH swap?

that would def be the most intelligent and cost effective swap for you. you read our reasons for why not to earlier so now you gotta find yourself a reputable company to purchase from. there are a few guys on here that have some good links to reputable companies. i'm sure you'll get a post sooner or later.

good luck with your swap
