Re: cover to the headers

It's a header, and yes, it's there for a reason. America got jipped in many ways on parts that Japan got, but we got all the necessities. Take the cover off, there is no insulation on the stock header. The heat just fluctuates under the hood, which is bad all around because if you have a SRI, it sucks in hotter air, which is bad. There is also the potential of the heat ruining the rubber A/C lines that run right in front of it.
You can take it off and paint it or even polish it. Check my member's ride's page and you'll see mine black, and edge2lyfe got his polished, which looks really nice.
Leave it on though. And don't use heat wrap, it's just as bad. Moisture stays in and eventually rusts out the header, not to mention stinks for the first several weeks of use.

Re: cover to the headers

Why do so many people remove it? In most pictures of people's rides here it's removed to show off aftermarket headers.

Re: cover to the headers

Because most aftermarket headers don't have anywhere to mount the shield.

I know of a few people running without them with no major problems, but having said that I still wouldn't reccommend removing it.

Re: cover to the headers

I've noticed that mine is off, but I ahve never had any serious problems. My hood does get a little warmer then it should, but other then that, I haven't had a major heat issue ever

I wish I still had mine tho, I would probably put it back on...

I took mine off when I replaced my header with an aftermarket one but have had no issues with it.

HEADER FELLAS!!!

sorry Colin but any opportunity to correct you must be taken, lol. steal has a much higher resistance to heat.

and if you want a heat shield so bad i have one you can have for $30+shipping. let me know homes!

BTW nice correction there Steph. yes it is called a HEAT SHIELD.

and i def would not leave it off if you are planning to keep that CF hood miss. that shiit heats up a lot faster and you can easily F that hood up.

Getting back to the topic at hand- to answer your question - I would say that alot of people run without them with no serious problems - so if your not liking the way it looks - then you should have no problems in taking it off

Because it's not cast iron and emitting as much heat.

NO!
first you wanna either sand blast (who the hell has a sandblaster, but if you do ), u can power wash, or just get a wire brush wheel and throw it on the end of drill and get all that rust off. next get yourself some high heat engine paint and throw a bunch of light coats on that sucker and BAM!

98BB6SH is right, the finish is in the preparation. Abraham Lincoln was quoted as saying give me six hours to cut down a tree, and I'll spend the first four sharpening my axe. What this translates to in 21st century speak is about twice the time spent to do the job should be spent in preparation.
