AC compressor replacement

Hi guys,

I'm wondering how long these prelude AC comps are supposed to last...mines just blew so I need to replace it. However, looking at the prices, I can get anywhere from a $100 '97 compressor junkyard quality to a $300 re-manufactured compressor.

I'm rather tight on money with school and everything, not to mention having to pay for the labor of replacing this, so I was wondering if its better to get the used cheap one, or get something that looks a bit more legit....would a 97' prelude's AC compressor likely to jus die on me? Am I better off shelling out extra money for the re-manufactured one?

Thanks.

Re: AC compressor replacement

you could go with the used, but when you do that you take a gamble depending on how much it has been used, check the miles and if you are under 150K then it would probably be ok depending on your area's normal temp. but you would be better off buying it new/remaned but the finally work is always up to the owner..

Re: AC compressor replacement

if you do a used one and put it in yourself it's sure to fail. moisture will destroy it if you don't pull a vacuum on the system once the part is installed.

I don't know many shops that will work with parts you bring to them.

if you wanna save yourself some money do it yourself it is really easy. and yes moisture is an issue so after the install just go have the lines blown out and the a/c recharged.

DO NOT GO WITH USED

you never know how worn the internals are. the a/c clutch can go at any time as did your i assume. i would advise gettin a reman. you can get it from AutoZone the cheapest like i did and INSTALL IT YOURSELF. we can walk youthrough the install it's really easy. if you want i have a buddy of mine that works for HONDA. i can ask him how much he can get a new one for. he'll get his discount so it'll be a genuine HONDA part for cheap. let me konw... PM if you want me to look into it.
