$200 S2000 rims off of craigslist

I picked up these rims last night for $200 off of craigslist. I had to drive all the way from Seattle down to Lacey (122 mile round trip) to pick them up but it was totally worth it. I do plan on stripping the paint off and polishing the aluminum before throwing a clear coat over them and putting them on my Prelude (maybe I'll sport them as is for a week). There's 90% tread on the fronts, it really was a great deal.

I didn't want to spend any more money on my car unless I was replacing the header, o2 sensor and cat but this deal was too good to pass up.

It will? Don't most aluminum rims have a clear coat over them?

No you can use the staggered and it will work just fine.

Also the "clear" they put on from the factory is not what you would see at a shop or in a can.

Where do I pick that clear up from then? I don't want to have to polish the rims everytime I wash the car, I know bare aluminum doesn't stay bright for very long after you polish it.

You really can get about any color in powdercoat. Hell, some Nascar teams get their wheels powdercoated to look chrome.

Good find though!
the base alloys have a clearcoat over them, as do most brushed alloy honda wheels I've seen.

EDIT: I didn't see your second post steph. I'll do some searching around and find out about that coating.

Re: $200 S2000 rims off of craigslist

Um, leave thems alone, they're nice as is, if you found some red pin-stripping, Or Red "H" accents the rims would look diesel (unless that's not your lude in the sig.) BTW people on craigslist are dumb. they sell thier factory rims as if they only cost 25 bucks each... I bought a set of Sentra Se 2.0 15" rims for 150 bucks with a new set of tires! the guy swapped out his 350.00 each stockers for American racing black rims for 90.00 MSRP
I'd love to find those BBS 5x120mm rims for like 150$ one day.... GREAT FIND!

Re: $200 S2000 rims off of craigslist

Nice price. Definitely don't recommend running stacked rims on the Prelude:

1. You can't rotate them now
2. Your handling will be effected and a neutral breakaway won't happen anymore.

Stacked rims is another word for saying they are staggered meaning bigger in the back.

But bigger in the back is not always a bad thing....OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

Re: $200 S2000 rims off of craigslist

Yea, larger tires in the rear will effect handling but if you just daily drive the lude and don't track the car or drive wide open country backroad curves at WOT you probably won't really notice the difference.

I'm stripping them down to the aluminum and polishing them. A lot of people are saying to powdercoat them but I just have a thing for polished aluminum.

If I don't like that I could always do what the previous owner did, but do it right this time.
