Hey wzup Luders :cool2: After or 'whenever' i return from deployment next year i'm thinkin' about using some of tha saved cash & goin' turbo , but my question is will it 'do it's job' or be worth it with my tiptronic tranny? Any advice would be greatly appreciated & if anyone here has sportshift and 'already' did this, lemme know tha outcome, peace!

Re: :cool2: Thinkin turbo

You'll blow the trans pretty quick. Do the 5-spd conversion first, then go forced. That way you also get the benifit of gear ratios that are suitable for actually driving (gasp!).

Yeah if you think about it. Sell your car, almost have enough money to buy a new stick prelude (depending on the shape of your car) Save up money for a couple months and you got yourself a turbo pretty much.

Ditto I agree with these guys sell the auto and buy a manual.

Just for the record I am a veteran myself and I suggest don't buy your 5sp Prelude near the base as those places take advantage of soldiers. You might want to sell your auto there as you might get alittle more than trading or selling away from the base. But I would drive out a bit from the base to find your 5sp. You might be able to sell and buy without having to dish out a whole lot of money. Plus it will be way cheaper to get your 5sp this way rather than doing a 5sp swap. Then with that money you saved by not doing the swap you'll have more money to dump into the motor build and buying the turbo kit, I recommend going with a good one like turbonetics or Greddy. I once looked at eBay turbos but I finally came to a conclusion, " YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR " in anything you buy wether its turbo kits or household goods. Everything I have bought in the past if I wanted to save money and go cheap, I'd end up spending more money replacing the cheap crap, than just buying the more exspensive one in the first place.

Good luck, and thank you for your service.

Not what I heard also not what I've read. Our V tec tuned properly setting the crossover at the most opportune point. I've heard and read they do much better turboed. But seriously I love reading and learning so prove me wrong. I have only read from one source.

Superchargers are better for some situations, and turbochargers others - it all depends on what you want out of it and your driving style. But don't get your heart set on one without at least investigating the other.

Re: :cool2: Thinkin turbo

So true Brash22, for me it looks like turbo is in my future but I want to try and see what changes I will experience once I get my 8 lb flywheel installed w/ the kevlar 4 puck clutch. That might be enough to satisfy me, as I think this car is already fun to drive, w/ boost that might change everything.

i was thinking turbo on my lude also, but as of now with it being my everyday driver. That would just kill my car. If you could hold on to your auto and just find a 5 speed and have them both! lol. Good luck over there also man

Re: :cool2: Thinkin turbo

Consider swapping as well. I would swap mine before trading it on a manual because I already know that this car has been looked after, always garaged, etc and I know that finding another as well looked after will be hard. It may wind up cheaper as well. Just somthing else to consider.

the way to go is definitely upgrading to a 5 speed. Colin is right if you go forced induction you'll blow that tranny real quick. you should keep your eyes out for a wrecked lude and try to buy the tranny set up. i had a wreck but unfortunately already sold the entire tranny set up that did a auto to manual swap in a del sol. after that go forced if you'd like but i say N/A all the way.
be safe in your travels my friend. i wish you a safe trip over seas and a very speedy return. i admire you and trust me when i say we all appreciate and support you and the rest of our troops!

Re: :cool2: Thinkin turbo

Thanx so much & i'll keep ya'll posted as far as what i'll do with tha Lude, i might sweap or might stay with tha current set up a while, tha engine has a lil over 178,000 miles, so i'm possibly throwing in a lower mileage h22 or rebuild, possible tranny swap, and turbo, hell if i'm really able to do it all, that would be pretty awesome i guess, we'll see:rockon:
