Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

Alright well I got my car back from the mechanic a week ago. During his work he had to unplug the battery, anyway like most of you probably know the radio locks up and you need a code to get back in. Well when I bought the car I didn't get a code so this is where my problem begins. I called Honda Montreal (where I live) they gave me 4 different 5 digit codes. I tried them all, none worked. Then I called up Honda Lakeshore in Toronto where the car was bought initially in 97. They gave me the identical codes, I told them they didn't work, they said go to a dealership and check it out. So I go to Honda dealership near my house, they give me the exact 4 codes, told them they didn't work so they called up Honda main offices in Canada. Now these people gave me 3 new codes, still none work.

Unfortunately I have no way of contacting the previous owner because he sold the car to an action which was later on bought off buy a used car dealership (so they don't have any more information than I do) and I bought it from them......So basically I'm screwed and have to dish out money to buy a new one??

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

ya most likely..the numbers normally located in glove box or there is a number you give dealership and then they give you number that matches that clearance code to get ur password to open it..Have you been removing the battery cable after a few tries to prevent it from continuing the deny?

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

Wellll we have run into this very frequently working on customers cars. Unplug the radio to hook up power, plug back in....shyt! No code. Take the radio out and get the model and serial number and any info you can. Call a Honda dealership and they should be able to tell you. Or as NightRacer said they will give you a series of buttons to push and hold with your leg out one window and your tongue sticking out the left side of your mouth. Then with the numbers your radio will display they can tell you the code.

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

lol..ya basically i had same problem but luckly all i had to do was give numbers from box lol..worked first time..hope you get it fixed..but one other thing i would point out to you..is ok if you have to buy a new radio..and go away from stock get one with WMA playability..you can store 200-300 songs on one CD and then just let it go from there lol..it is awesome never having to change CD..lol..just lots of button pushing if you are a picky listener

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

also, if you put in the wrong code 3 times, you have to reset it b/c it locks the security feature. just unplug the radio or pull the ecu (it doubles as the radio's constant power) fuse under the hood for about 1-2 minutes (with keys out of ignition too). then as they said, there will be a small white sticker on the side of your glove box, as well as on the driver's door frame with the paint code, and a third one on the underside of the rear deck inside the trunk. mine is a 5-digit code, some are only 4.

Personally, I'd just go aftermarket. You can get a decent headunit for around $75-$125

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

I just went from an aftermarket back to stock... sounds wayyy better! I must have had a crappy one hu?

But as far as the code... i searched the whole car.. glove box, dash, door panels, under hood, trunk. No sticker with 5 numbers. So i got the SN off the stereo, went to my local honda service center and they just printed it off for me. Worked great, no issues at all. When i called to ask if they could do it, they said i needed proof of ownership blah blah blah...

I got there and they just asked for the SN... piece of cake

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

Dude, thats hilarious. What kind of HU was it? I'm running a Pinoneer 2900 and it's awesome. Sound is way clearer than stock and also hits much harder. But then again I also have all my speakers replaced

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

Sorry to be an ass guys but none of you seemed to understand what i was saying :P. I already searched the whole car for numbers, I already went to Honda, I already tried all the 7 different codes they gave me. I'm just trying to figure out if any one here has had this kind of problem because I find it Friggen stupid that the codes arent working. I mean my cd player matches the car so basically something is defective and the code doesnt work??

Anyway il planning on buying a new system anyway the only thing is i wanted to wait to get a bit more money cuz i dont want to spend 100 bux to get a piece of **** i rather spend 500 bux get a nice double din dvd player you know?

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

So you gave them numbers off the radio? They wont be written in some crazy place. I have never heard of a radio not taking the proper code. what info did you give them for them to come up with codes? When we have had to get a radio code it has never been try these. That sounds hokey. They say this is the code after they ask us for a certain peice of info. Im not trying to be an ass but it sounds like your not giving the proper info.

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

The Honda guys took my radio out and took down its serial and all that information themselves..i didn't do that. They gave me the codes that went with that radio, I tried them infront of them and they didn't work. Later on they called me with 3 new codes they got from Honda Canada (the main offices) and those still did not work...I havn't gone back to Honda or called them since so they don't know it doesn't work...thing is it costs money to repair and seeing how i wanted to get a new system im not going to put in money to fix something i was looking to replace...basically the timing suck that's all

Re: Problem with the ludes radio/cd player

im pretty sure there shouldn't be multiple codes... they should know the EXACT 5 digit number, none of this 3 different ones bullcrap. I understand where you are coming from but I feel like the honda place you're going to is the one screwing up. Maybe as a last resort, get the SN from the stereo yourself and call them or take that number in and ask them to print it out for you. The SN should be on the underside of the stereo when you take it out.
It is the only information they need to look it up in the computer.

Hope you can get it to work....
