that maintenance light

i kno theres a thread or two probaly 3 out there about this but i jus have to find out very quickly and have no time to search so...
wen it turns color i kno u need something done...is it just a reminder to keep up with work? i lost my manual and i remember telling someone that asked the same question a whole bunch of stuff about this lil light. mine just turned orange and i just put about 300bucks into my new cooling system so can i jus reset that button n be good or should i take it as a check engine light and get somethin checked
