Icon5 I wonder what's wrong ?

I own a 1998 prelude automatic, i have no real problems with it. But i think there is something wrong maybe you guys could be able!
So the problem is sometimes when i start my prelude and drive around i feel like i have all 190 hp backing me up and somedays it would just feel like slow little car.
So yesterday i thought i'd try something i stepped on the brake with left foot and right foot on the gas pedal so rpm went up to 2000 and then i took it too 0 - 60 mph n it frikkin took me 12 seconds i was shocked cuz last time i did that time test it was 8.3 seconds without the CAI on it and now with the JDM CAI on it, it took me 12 secs. and it was in shiftronic mode not like auto drive guys seriously i can't understand the problem cuz nuthin is wrong with the car no engine light no nothing but its been more then 60k kilometres on my car i haven't got spark plugs and wires changed do you think that could be the problem and one more thing when i step on the gas pedal complete down , it feels like my lude is thinking that should i speed up or should i not listen to the owner ...damn i m depressed help me

and also advise me which wires and spark plugs are best for my lude i know its ngk but which one iridium or platinum or copper ??

and i am from canada, ontario, brampton any one from near here lol ??

Well, there are a couple of reasons that come to mind.

Yes it could be your spark plugs, (Personally, I like NGK Iridiums.)

But it also could be your fuel filter, if you had your A/C on that could have done it too.

Just my .02

I agree with oceanborn. Tune up is probably your best bet to help performance. Change your oil too. It wouldn't affect 0-60 times by 4 seconds, but engine sludge definitely has an effect on your speed, and engine output. And my next bet would be fuel filter, but I would probably take it to a shop if I were in your situation. Good Luck, and I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

I'm aboard on the tune up also, but I read your post and I noticed you said you put on a CAI and a CAT back? Now after doing this it seems slower? If so maybe just maybe and I might be a tard here, no offence everybody. Have you tried un hooking your battery for a little bit after you did your CAI and cat back exhaust. Might need a reboot.

You can "reboot" your ECU by disconnecting the negative side of the battery. Your ECU should pick up on the mods you've made and adjust it's fuel/air ratios, ETC. Accordingly.

While ur doing a tune up why not check your trans fluid too....
Changing that won't effect ur speed but since your standing on the brake and giving a hard time to your converter and clutches it may be a good idea to check that see if its burnt and what not.....
Also why not check ur other standard stuff? I know it was mentioned before but check that fuel filter.... I know prelude fuel pressure regs can wear out abnormally and then you end up with premature low fuel pressure... That plus a bad fuel filter can equal some pretty serious hesitation....
The interesting part about this all is that you did mods and slowed your car down..... Maybe back track a little is none of the above works....

I always tell people to make there car run tip top first with all required service before they start mods.... That way you don't end up in this kinda situation....

Good luck man I hope my 2 cents helps

This is more of an fyi than anything - but...

I recently ran a bottle of STP fuel injection system cleaner through with a full tank of gas, and boy was I surprised at what difference it made. I have noticably more pick up below 5K rpm, in the form of throttle responsiveness that makes the car more driveable. It idles smoother and takes off smoother. I had no idea the injectors needed any attention, everything seemed fine, but the difference after the bottle of fuel injection system cleaner was really noticable.

Some food for thought...

I had this problem before but it happened because I had a major oil leak and didn't realize it.. All the lights went dim and the gauge needles went crazy.. Not really sure why yours would do that if it ran fine afterwards..
