how high the RPM should be at 60mph

Hi guys
I just got a 97 SH with 102K miles. I hadn't driven Lude for awhile, used to be an SI owner but for the new Lude I've noticed the RPM needle stayed over 3200rpm when the car was at 60mph and it was close to 3700 RPM when it's at 70mp.. is this normal? I think it's high for a Lude but not quite sure so if you guys can help to tell what the RPM should be at 60 and 70 mph, i'm really appreciate that...

Im going to assume your in either 4th(for the ss) or 5th for the 5spd....but yeah, thats normal to be at at 60mph and the rpms being at 3200rpms and at 70mph at 3700...now that i think about it, im second guessing myself now...

No, your right. 70 MPH is about 3500 RPMs

Yeah perfectly normal on a 4g too. Preludes are high rev engines. My h23a1 runs smoother in the high rpms, and of course, really gets it in the high rpms. If they cruised at 2000 or 2500 you would definitely have to down shift just to accelerate a little bit. When your already around 3500 you dont always have to down shift to accelerate.

h23a1 with whatever the stock tranny is m2s4? 60mph@3000rpm, 70@3500, 80@4000

h22a with jdm lsd m2b4: 62-63mph@3000 rpm (higher ratio 4th/5th, lower 1st-3rd)

The 4th gen USDM h22 trannies were geared lowest...

all this info is somewhere on this site... basically any of them do around 60 at 3000 rpms and 80@4K

5th gen in 5th gear -- double RPMS and thats speed

example: 2500RPM = 50MPH
3000RPM = 60MPH
3500RPM = 70 MPH

on my h23a1 it was 130 at 6500 (red line) rpms
so id say its in that range i never pushed it past that far, i didnt wanna blow a seal. Its not worth driving at that speed, unless your on a track! and still things can go wrong.
I know, i clamed my last prelude on my insurance and now for colision and libiality its $4000 every 6 motnhs (my car was the only car involved also) Sucks when your 19 and you crash your car.
