Car seat question

Wzup guys & gals, gotta question. I'm wondering if my 99' Lude has any 'anchors' for my newborn's car seat latch harness. The seat belt method is alright, but i would like the added stability of the seat for my child. A couple of my buddies claim that only the 00-01 models actually had this feature, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yes there are. There are two plugs in the rear parcel shelf that cover the restraint mounts.

New to the forum but not to car seats!

For a newborn car seat (rear facing) you'd want latch anchors in the seat. I have a '98 lude and it doesn't have them. It DOES have the rear latch anchor point though - above the rear head rest area. That is only for front facing car seats (over a year old and over 20 lbs). Installing a car seat with the seat belt is just fine - however your passenger in front is going to be kissing the dash!
Get your install checked by a car seat tech too. It's not as easy as it looks. The install should be rock solid.

Hope that helps!

Maria

Thanx for the replies Yeah this ride's setup is different than my previous hondas, when i had my first child, i was still drivin a 01 civic sedan and had no issues with the restraint, but it's all good, my 'newest' will be plenty secure, peace!

I had and idea to make a mount to turn the center plastic thing in the back so the car seat could be in the center wear it's more safe. Lude crashed b/4 she was born and i have a suv now so no need. Only thing about the lude i didn't like.

I don't think there is any way possible to make the center section car seat compatible. They'd have to redesign the 'Lude and we all know that is not happening.
That's why my other vehicle is a minivan

I can attest that a front facing car seat fits great back there. I have a perfect install using a Radian65 car seat by Sunshine Kids. Fits 5-65 lbs - my 5 y/o 42lb son uses it - 5pt harness - looks like a racing car seat and is a super safe seat. It can go rear facing, but in a 'Lude you'd have to have no passenger to pull that off. For rear facing seats - I use the minivan (super sad, eh?)

I do have a picture of the Radian installed in the 'Lude. Since I'm new to this forum I need to figure out how to post it or a link to it. Let me know if you are interested.

The way i was thinking to make one would be to get a car seat with the lil stand that can stay in the car and the seat attaches to that. Then reiforce the center thingy by sandwiching it between 2 piece of metal and drill and bolt them on the seat. Then on the top piece build something so the seat will sit perfect and safe cover it with seat foam and cover it with fabric. Then get a seat belt thing kind you find in the middle seat, bolt it under the seat and then put the stand on the plat forum you built and strap it up like you would normal.

If i can find them i had a guy from a shop draw up my idea for me ill see if i can find them. Real all it would be is a molded seat cushion that would be bolted to a plate on the bottom of the back seat.

Here's the seat installed.
The Radian is a pricey but great seat. Very small footprint - lots of seats are too wide for these bucket back seats and don't fit well. Considering the radian fits my 5 y/o still - it's a good buy - and lasts your entire car seat years pretty much!

As for your ideas on putting the seat in the middle - yeah all sounds good but you'd not be guaranteed it would work - pretty risky adventure with a baby involved. Your best bet is to use the seat belts in one of the seats.
Just my opinion - I'm kind of a car seat nazi.

I know for the front facing seat there is a spot on either side of the rear deck (where the speakers are) to attach your child seat strap. I'm not too sure about a rear facing application though. I would call Honda and ask them they may be able to help you out. I would say where lower part of the seatbelt is attached to on the sides may have a metal loop or something you can hook to, is your child seat one of those ones that has a lower car seat portion that stays in the car? Because that thing should have a strap going from side to side and I'd bet there is something down there on the sides of the rear seat where you can clip in.

Yeah it's rear-facing & it does have the separate base seat that the real seat just drops into. I'm gonna go look by the speakers in a second, maybe i'm just blind lol. Btw your valve cover looks like mine,
