The problem with this is that what one person can live with from day to day is different to what another can. Many say that the 8lb flywheel is too light for a daily, but BadMoFo says he loves his. Many say that Tein SS coilovers on their stiffest setting is way too hard for a dd, but I got a mate with them on his, and he wishes it was stiffer.

What is too hard for you might be just right for me. Unless you give a lot more detail to what you want, and want to know you will be told to do the basic I/H/E mods, then this thread will be locked because we're sick and tired of repeating the same answer to the same question. :motz:

lol I luv my 8lb flywheel. I wish it was lighter. With any bolt-ons your going to need a tune to get the most out of them, or even to get anything out of them.

I'm going to assume this is a joke... there are like 3 performance parts in there, which is what was asked about. In addition, on a daily driver you may decide to go with coilovers, but you by no means need to... save some money by getting a good spring/shock combo. Like neuspeed sports, or H&R sports... sports only have 1.3-1.7" drop so you won't worry as much about bottoming. Put those over some kybs or konis, and you might want to get the spc balljoints (camber kit). Save the money and when your bushings are crusty in a few years get the polyurethane ones from energy suspension... I would not trade my current setup (above with NS sports on kyb Agxes for a thousand dollar coil over combo.

My 4th gen is quick, but also easy to drive and I get about as good MPG as can be expected (especially for my driving style... vtec happy).

here's a link to my setup and results of my recent dyno tune on eCtune (you can do that if you convert to obd1... if you don't have emissions tests only).
eCtune @ Blueridge Motorsports
---------------

I could have used a larger header and gained some power. I plan on getting an 11.5lb flywheel when the clutch needs to come out. If you have money for more, maybe get some crower cams, replace the retainers, springs, etc... if you still want more get the cylinders resleeved, get some new pistons, and boost at least 6psi (or do those in the opposite order I suppose)... I think it would still be really street worthy like that.

You can do all those aesthetic upgrades if you like... I would never do ALL those... but you seemed more interested in power and the fun that follows... there's something nice about sleepers anyway.

poohbear will become famous soon enoughpoohbear will become famous soon enough
I would concentrate on basic needs of the car first.
How are your plugs and wires cap and rotor? Maybe you need a tune up that will be more power right there..
How are your ground wires looking? Bad then replace em smooth out your idle increase effeciancy.
How about fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator? Not to expensive at all and can do more good then you think depending on the condition of your old ones.
Get the car running like it should be and go from there. Upgrade what's broken and replace what's weak. Add little parts that may help small tiny bits but still help; remember its not the one part you put on your car that will make a difference. Its the sum of the parts. so every little bit helps. Well unless its a JRSC then its just the one part.
Case and point that fuel pressure regulator might not do anything at all, but for some its a huge help and cheap, same with the filters.
Help your car run effeciant then start your upgrades. Especially since you seem to be more concerned with the DD aspect and not the power aspect.

How about a power pully system then? You could free up some power with that.

My 2 cents :-/

^good advice. I guess the 5th gens are starting to get old too... I have also done all the above stuff... when I had my engine swapped... if you haven't start there for sure... I assumed the basics were cared for.

I didn't even think about this being a 5th gen thread, so I forgot about the supercharger... that may be preferable to a mild boost.

It wasn't a joke, um a daily driven prelude? Im assuming you didn't want to deal with failures with the engine. Turbo or super charger. I assumed you just wanted a regular I/H/E, my fault for trying to be a help, i mean for a daily driven lude, its fast enough, i'd rather focus on my taste on the looks. If you wanted performance then say that specifically rather then saying what should i just do to my lude.

I wasn't trying to hurt you feelings, I just thought you got a bit carried away considering the nature of the post. It's not your fault for trying to help, it's your fault for misreading the post ;)... unless it was edited, which I didn't check... hello foot... hello mouth... ;)

what up wreckless. good advice from both pooh bear and mry82. here is my suggestion since i have a DD as well.
  • oil change (if not already done)
  • full tune-up (NGK Iridium Plugs and Wires, Cap & Rotor, Fuel Filter, etc.) Check/Replace O2 Sensors
  • stock intake w/ drop in K&N air filter and remove your resonator ($45 mod- super cheap)
  • fuel pressure regulator
  • header (look for a Megan header - cheap and just as good as DC or such for DD)
  • 2.5" flex pipe welded to header
  • magnaflow high flow cat
  • cat-back exhaust
these are great starting mods, especially for DD...

after that look into:
  • Cams
  • valve springs
  • retainers
  • larger throttle body
  • fuel rail
  • cam seals (which can/should be done at any time - stuck are not so good)
  • APEXi VAFC - get it all professionally tuned!

don't forget suspension and brakes
  • get a 1.3"-1.5" drop (great for DD)
  • and some KYB AGX's

i have just started with a lot of these mods and as soon as i am done i will post my dyno results and some pics. Talk to E, he has guided me in the right direction
good luck and keep us updated

oh yeah...
can't forget about style
get yourself some nice rims with some good rubber on em

holy crap this reply is colorful

well what else is done? just the urethane bushings on my car helped, I don't really feel much roll, but I am lowered 1.7". Strut bars will stiffen up the chasis, lowering the stance should reduce roll... and yes a bigger sway bar will reduce roll more, but honestly I can't say that I need it.

here is more on my setup...

^ DC aren't bad... they aren't the sturdiest you can get... I don't think I would dish out the money for a sway bar if you are keeping stock shocks/springs... Sway bar and end link bushings don't cost too much and helped me out considerably (had the other bushings replaced at the same time)

these are 4th gen, but they have 5th gen and are cheap and quick...

something I posted on another thread:
"I was out on highway 80 today (Buck Creek) breaking the back end loose a little on the hard corners with a stock rear bar and endlinks that are 227K old with new bushings.... all my suspension bushings are polyurethane as I said... The car had no understeer (neuspeed sports on kyb agx.. gain redundant) and felt incredibly balanced and confident ripping up the corners at the limits of adhesion.

p.s. just to avoid confusion, I was not using the hand brake.

so ask yourself... if that good enough? or does it need to be better? ;)

best of luck."

skip the DC struts and go for something adjustable like the KYB ABX's. or if you do not want to go adjustable and you need to save some skrilla i have used tokico blue's in the past and i never had any complaints

KYB AGX?? He was talking about a dc sports strut tower bar (I think)... Tokico's aren't too shabby though. I really like my agxes.
