JDM Rear window conversion

Alright, I have been considering the jdm rear window conversion for some time now. The difference is that the jdm rear has an available rear window wiper(like an integra). I want to know if anyone has done trhis or knows of it being done. My brother used to install windshields and can help me do it, but I need to know if the rear defrost contacts will still line up and work. Also, I will have to either find the wiper switch or have it wired into the main for the front wipers. let me know what ya think?

i agree. great JDM mod. you can wire it to any switch that you have or just hook it up to engage with front wipers. keep us updated.

Short answer - too bloody hard.

Slightly longer answer - The install requires new rear glass, wiper, wiper motor, wiring loom (s), switch, hose, etc. It's a huge amount of effort, and for what gain?

You also run the risk of the insurance company wanting to write your car off if some anal wart smashes your back window, due to the rarity of your rear glass.

I agree, that it would be a cool mod to do, but noway is it worth it.

BTW, EUDM Ludes also had the rear wiper.

JDM Mods are always a nice touch. Brash is right though: your insurance company won't really give a sh!t either way but if your window gets smashed they will only replace it with OEM glass. (i work for GEICO)

You could drill the required holes in the OEM glass if it came down to it, but AFAIK drilling glass requires diamond cabide drill bits...and they aint cheap.

And I'm not sure it would make a difference, but the defogger lines in the rear window would be different in the JDM glass.

To be brutally honest, if it wasn't so bloody hard I'd have done it already. I get a lot of misty rain where I am, and quite often have to park the car outside. So the water is on the window, but isn't dense enough to fly off under movement.

I have a source for all of the parts already, I am not going to reveal it. Plus it's cheap, less than $500 for everything(including the shipping). If only I had a way to get $1500 quick, then I could buy the red interior too(just seats[not carpet/mats/door panels]).

The defrosters would be the least of your worries, just find same gauge wire and you can lenghten or shorten as much as you need, make sure to use heat shrink to make it look professional.

I was also seriously considering getting the JDM Windshield/wipers a few years ago as well, but dismissed the idea due to the difficulty and hassle level of getting all the sources and details as you all have mentioned. So to Mystic, if you succeed please post a DIY for the rest us

Slightly off topic, I know that EUDM ludes have heated side mirrors. Has any of you considered/tried install one?

As far as I know, yes. Because I've never seen a picture of a 5g with a radio antenna, from anywhere.

Also fitted on cars in the North of Japan, the cold part of the country.

Not heard of anybody trying this, and can't actually see why it's required to be brutally honest.

i spoke to a buddy of mine who is a Union Glazier (Glass Guru) and he said that depending upon how showroom or JDM you wanna go that any skilled glazier can make the hole for you and you can you use pretty much any rear window wiper you would just have to customize the wiring and switch. good luck!

I wouldn't try it because of the difficulty involved but if you can do it I say go right ahead. Just make sure you post pics for us (me) to see.

after talking to my boy and thinkin about what he said, i have a suggestion;
  1. find rear glass from a junk yard or glass company as cheap as possible.
  2. find a rear wiper set up from any vehicle that will fit the rear glass
  3. practice makes perfect...

if it works, install it, wire that sh!t up and post some pics.
