Go to an authorised dealer or garage that has the device to read and diagnose these codes.

No. Unless you can fabricate your own reader and somehow interface that to your pc.

No problem. Honestly mate, its going to be cheaper to get the car read by a professional. UNLESS someone here has the device to pull codes and lives close to you.

Cheers

That is great news. Going to ask our AutoZone's here in South Africa if they do the same. Be great if they do.

I've always just used a bent paperclip in that plug under the dash. The CEL will flash the appropriate code(s). All you need to do is figure out what they mean, which isn't hard if you know where to look.

Why was I under the impression you need a code reader? If this is the case i'm going to try it out :) props to you if it works.

Oh it works. I've used that method numerous times. You just bend the paperclip into a U-shape then insert each end into the plug you plug the code reader thing in. Turn your ignition key to ON (not start), and your CEL will flash.

Long flashes are tens, and fast flashes are ones. Multiple codes will be punctuated by a pause, and if you miss a code they will repeat until the key is turned back to off.

Four long flashes and five short would be code 45. I don't know if there is a "code 45" I'm just using that as an example.

There is a document that I have somewhere that shows all the codes and what they mean.

:)

Passenger side (under the dash), just forward of the shifter.

If you can find the list of codes I am sure we can make it a sticky! :) Please let us know.

My fuel economy is terrible so I am hoping to check if there is a problem.

There is a list of codes on here...somewhere. I'll be buggered if I can find it atm. I'll have another look tonight when I get home.

You bend it in the shape of a "U" and insert each end into the holes on the plug, just like a wall receptacle.
