5th gen stock air box

I have the normal intake that goes down the left side to behind the passenger light. Theres a lil black hole underneath my filter. I was told there more of the factory air box underneth the aftermarket filter and behind the bumper wheel well whereever it is. But is there really more of the airbox i should take out for less air restriction?

to be honest if you should just go ram air. lol..that is what i did. i never really fooled around with stock air filter. but there it should just have snap together pieces i think. Or they might just be sealed. but personally i would say just to upgrade it a little..

plus the ram air is a low cost upgrade that gives power and a kinda cool look.

oh ok not sure then myself. honestly the best way to find out if true is to do some investigating under your car. unless it is your only car like me. sadly still can't find another 97-01 lude

yup, the resonator is under the top part that houses the filter.
rip the fender liner back and you'll see it.

I've said it a million times.
The resonator box in the fender is there from the factory to cut down on noise. If you take that out and put in a K&N drop in filter, it's like a cold air intake because the stock box blocks out engine bay heat, and sucks it out from the bumper area. It also makes the SRI/CAI sound. Plus, the plastic and rubber keep heat out better than the aluminum metal tubing, so intake temps are cool, which equals more power. By taking it out, you also save a couple pounds cause the box isn't exactly the weight of a shift knob.

You can get the filter for under $40 on the internet. It's the best filter you can get, so you can have the most bang for the buck, plus a sleeper engine bay for $40 after taking the resonator box out.

That and the fact that 98Vtec's dyno test proves that the stock intake with the resonator removed and a K&N makes more power than all but an AEM V2, and the V2 only beats it by tenths of 1 horse power. Yay, cost effective power gains.

I might have went with the stock or type-s and a k&n filter if my car hadn't already came with a AEM CAI. Since I'm in Seattle where heat soak isn't an issue like it is in California I changed it out for the AEM V2.

Dude, my dream intake setup is a Type-S with a K&N Drop-in.

True sleeper look.

I'll agree with that. But as we all know, intakes make bugger all difference anyway.
