Icon8 blown clutch story (kinda long), what clutch combo to get?

so i had my lude (98 SH)for like 2 weeks and for the 1st time i decided to attempt to launch it. i dropped the clutch at like 4k (figured that those rpms wouldnt kill it) car took off w/out any issues and all was fine. later that night i was ripping around and nobody was on the service road so i decided i would open it up. i rev 2nd to like 6k, shift, rev 3rd out to like 7.5k and attempt to shift but the clutch is really hard to go to the floor and the car is only able to shift into N. now coasting at like 100 i cant get the car into 5th or 4th. come to a stop car idling fine, no noises and wont go into any gear. so i shut the car. able to shift into all gears fine ( now i know its the clutch not the trans), start car again cant shift again. but now i figure that if i put it in gear and then start it i may be able to limp home. car starts in 1st, clutch in and car not moving, i let the clutch out easy and the car makes a little rattling sound and moves fine, shift into 2 then 3 goings slow. now the clutch seems to work. go to stop at a light, pedal harder again and wont shift again. and repeat this shut car, start car in 1st cycle over and over till i get home.

Im figureing that i blew the springs out of the clutch disk and they are wedging on the clutch and flywheel. did this on my Galant VR4 a few years back and had similar symtoms.

now how hard is it do the clutch (how may hour does the book say) and what clutch flywheel do you guys suggest. i was gonna go w/ a exedy stage 1 and a 12lbs or more flywheel ( car will never have more than basic bolt ons)

what do you think
thanks
jeremiah

I use the Exedy stage one in my car and its great. The clutch isnt that hard to do. the book says 5 hours just becuase it just takes time but the difficulty isnt nearly as hard as some might think. its pretty much pull your drive train but make sure you mark it so you know the exact spot to put it back onto your tranny otherwise it will screw things up. plug the tranny end that connects to the drive train becuase tranny fluid will be coming out. pull the tranny and take out the clutch. put new one in and try to re align the tranny with your engine. bolt it back in. attach the drive train back in. refill tranny fluid. There is alot more detail and stuff thats missing, but thats the quick story just to give you an idea. You also gonna have to get a new fly wheel or get it machined to smooth it out. And if your clutch is really bad, you shoudl be able to put it into 5th and let go of the clutch and if it doesnt stall then you know its long gone.

i love my stage 1 competition clutch, i am all bolt-ons...

don't get a solid aluminum 8lb flywheel... the 12lb you mentioned is better for a street application.
