Looking for some "starter" advice

Ok gang - I've posted pics of my newly acquired 95 Si (Fairly certain that it's got the H23A - thought I haven't actually looked yet)

what I need to know from you guys is. . . .

1. Is it going to be worth the 4-5K that I'm gonna need to spend to put this car back to "like new" condition? (body work - brand new panels will cost about 3K)

2. I've got a couple of oil leaks - oil pan & oil cooler? (these have an oil cooler?) What should I expect to spend on getting these fixed? (dripping on the exhaust and driving the SO crazy when she's riding with me - thinks it's going to blow up or something)

Thanks in advance

Yessir, if you have an Si it is the H23. as for the 4-5 grand that you want to drop into it, it really depends on what your buying, and how long you plan on keeping the car. I hope your not planning on body kits or something. But, if you plan on doing maintence/preventitive maintence, then a few engine mods here and there, I would say that is reasonable.

Welcome aboard. and yea it really depends. the body on my car isnt perfect, and thats alright with me. I wish it were better but I dont have the money to sink into it. The thing is if it were perfect then I'd worry even more about all the dumbasses on the road that park next to me when I park a mile out in the parking lot. As soon as its "perfect" the **** hits the fan.

I'm not into "body kits" and I've had my fill of "major modding".
So no for the most past this would be to have a nice daily driver for as long
as the motor & tranny last (151K on the Odo so far).

This is never gonna be "stupid fast" no matter what I spend on it - so maybe I'd do some exhaust work, maybe a cold air intake, and the AT to MT swap has some of merit in my book.

BTW - is there a decent exhaust on the market that's NOT a huge as fart can?

yeah man for sure no one likes those...check out the Greedy Evo2...it's what I've been saving for. If the evo2 is too big for you, check out the Greedy SP2. both good exhausts, my friend has an SP2.

Well after getting back from the dealership it looks like I'm gonna have to replace the exhaust from the header back. So what am I lookin at spending here guys? I'm positive that I can do it cheaper "on my own" than having them do it.

I'm just looking for something that will open it up some and not end up sounding like the 20 year old kid down the road that's got a lot different idea of what "sounds good" is. (I'm 37 BTW and the loudest exhaust I have is on the truck, well the beast screams at WOT, but that's another matter)

Again - Thanks in advance

header: you can get a cheap megan header off ebay for about $70.
exhaust: if your going with a cat-back exhaust there's plenty of options on the market. i got the apex'i WS2 system which is only a tad louder than stock. at WOT, it just sounds very sporty and aggressive, not loud by any means. most cat-backs will run around $550

Welcome aboard Buff.. lol i'm not too far off on the age range either so you're not old man.. I would say get it up to date on the maintenance first (timing belt, water pump, etc). What ever you want to do after that is all good.. Hey, what good is your car if it doesn't move right? As for me, i stayed stock in the exhaust department.. Gotta love the air intake scream on the highway..

Tanks for the vote of confidence Night Owl - problem is I have to replace the exhaust - it's leaking at the "flex" pipe and I just failed the local e-check so I know that I also know that I need to replace the cat - soooo

What I need to know is if I get a header - like the cheap Pace Setter for 150 or so - does that replace the flex pipe between the manifold & the cat - or do I need to buy one of those as well?

So far it looks like I'm going to go with the Pace Setter Headers & cat then go after the Thermal R&D Cat back.

Does this sound good - or am I missing something?

Stainless Steel Header with Gaskets $108.95 including shipping!

Now all I need is a Cat!!- Scratch that - just got a call from the seller on E-bay and he'll ship me a hi-flow cat for an additional $30 - so that means I'm at $138.95 +$490.09 = $629.04 - still cheaper than what the dealership wanted to sell me the flex pipe for :D
