bouncy warm up idle

ok like it says my idle is bouncy. but only when the engine is cold. after it gets warmed up a bit it stops. when it is warm it is idling around 1000-1100. both issue started at the same time so im figuring they are related.

ive cleaned the IACV and bleed the coolant. im thinking it is a vacuum line but idk

thanks

i hit 5th gen forum would a mod move this please.:ban:

twokexlv6coupe 04-03-2008 02:33 PM

ill ban you

1st check vac lines.
2nd, try lowering the idle. 1000-1100 is pretty high. and maybe its bouncing cuz its trying to compensate for the high idle.
if niether of those fix it, my money is on the FITV. open her up and turn the white springy-thing back in.

and moved, you SOB

Also check the coolent level man and bleed it. There is a bleeder on the t-stat housing.

lol thanks but i want to ban myself for it lol i checked the vac lines and they look good no dry rotting or anything.

i was gonna try and lower the idle but wanted some second opinions about what it might be before i did. and i did think about the FITV but hope its not b.c that biatch is expensive.

thanks again guys

you dont gotta replace the FITV, you just gotta turn the internal spring back in. it explains it in the online manual.

but the hardest part is you gotta take the cover off of it, 2 8mm bolts. at first i tried getting the bolts out w/ a phillips screwdriver but couldn't get enough torque, so i upgraded to the ratchet, and snapped the heads off both bolts. luckily i had 2 spare intake mani's layin around, so i just scooped up another one

94ludeguy 04-03-2008 04:41 PM

ohh ok well i hope i dont snap any bolts b.c i dont have extras lol

check your bleed pipes that come off your intake..sometimes they cause this

94ludeguy 04-09-2008 03:40 PM

thanks guys... i still havent fixed it but ill give it a try this weekend.been too busy to do anything about it right now

MN4thGEN 04-10-2008 11:31 PM

94ludeguy 04-11-2008 12:17 AM

well it like midnight and i was bored so i just finished trying the link u put up... im gonna let it sit for a few and let it get all the way cold and start her up and hope it works.. ill let everyone know asap

94ludeguy 04-11-2008 01:11 AM

ok well i did the thing in the link and it didnt help at all.... i think the idle jumped up a few hundred now... im thinking it might be a vac line... ****in vacumme hoses...

i think i might just bypass the FITV anyways...i dont think it can hurt anything. i guess ill just mess with it some more in the morning

could i need a new throttle body gasket. if thats is leaky at all could that be it anyone else got any ideas i havent hit

I had the same problem well myself and qnz92lude did. I changed my Fast idle valve and the problem with the jumpy rpm went away and rpms are now back to normal. If your rpms go up from 1000 to around 1500 I would say that's the problem.

I had the same problem, and it was probably the most irritating problem I've had with the car so far. I replaced the IACV and the idle was fine for a few weeks. Then, low and behold, it started up again. This time it was the FITV, so I replaced that too and now it's been fine for quite a while. The TPS is also one of the common culprits. Just check EVERYTHING because if you fix one, another one will probably go wrong soon after.
