Icon5 EGR port cleaning??? Yes, I've searched.

I've searched plenty of threads on cleaning the egr ports, but I've only found a few about the 4th gens. with the welded port holes.

Some say that you can grind the welds down, and eventually you will find the brass plugs that were installed into the IM by the manufacturer. Is this true? Also, most of the 5th gens. already have the inserted plugs threaded in, and you only need to use a drill bit, and a tap/die set to remove replace the plugs.

Has anyone ever cleaned the egr ports with them already welded on top, as most of the 4th gens. have.??? Like a step by step guide?

I have a good idea of how to do this, but I'm not sure if I should drill and tap, or grind the welds down on top of the IM.

I'm sure this has been a common problem, but like I said, I'm woundering if there is a write up for this.

Thanks....

Just for kicks.

Why hasn't anyone replied to my thread?

Did I miss the obvious?

Do you guys have any idea what I'm talking about? J/K.

Do you still live at home, and your moms calling you for dinner, and wanting you to make your bed?

If so, leave the nest, and get a job.J/K.

lol....

Egr port cleaning

Ogs,

I was joking about the replies, I know you guys help out whenever someones in a bind.

I didn't take any pictures though, I always seem to forget, when I'm working on something, because it's normally getting under my skin, loosing/misplacing tools, or somethings fighting me, like a bolt I can't get to or some other B.S.

The little research that I did on the egr ports, seemed pretty interesting, and I wanted to do it for the better purpose of gas milage, not really performance wise. Also my damn egr code (12) was coming on again, and the egrv is holding vacuum fine. I think it's the damn, control solenoid.

Like I said the whole cleaning process was a pain (messy wise) but it really wasn't to hard to do, with the right tools. I also haven't noticed a difference yet, but I have'nt driven over a 50-100 miles yet either.

I did notice that after reseting the ecu, my idle revs a little higher than normal, which is something that I still need to check into, since I've already cleaned the iacv and tighted the fitv.

Anyways, here's a link to the egr port cleaning.....
