rebuild h23?

what should you guy recommmend a rebuild for a h23? I have not much money to put in. I can only get around 1000 dollar. what can i get for 1000 in mod for the engine itself beside external part like header, ect. Can i get much power out of the engine for 1000 dollar? I was thinking of changing the vavle, rod, piston, bearing,... Can i just use the type S brand and gain some horse?Give me some hint and help on my coming mod..

You're not going to get much power for $1000. You can send your crank to www.laskeyracing.com and get it balanced and polished for $150. YOu can use Type S pistons in the H23 block. The pistons, rings, crank work, and new OEM HONDA bearings will get you around the $1000 mark. You'll notice a difference in power. Get it tuned asap though.

If I had only 1k to spend and 1k only I'd grab some cams, cam gears and then use the leftovers to get something to tune the ECU with. If you just want some more fun with the car that's what I'd do. If you wanna built it for Turbo someday (like most H23-ers do) don't waste money on parts you won't use later. Definatly make sure you don't blow all your cash and have none left over for tuning.

nope there not 1000 usually unless your getting ripped off IMO. You might end up spending 1000 to make your h23 vtec because of all the other stuff you need...but I really dont know for sure.

okay.well what if i want to run turbo? Will all i need to change is just the cam and piston? If not what else? And you guy know why the prelude would run weak? LIke it run like its sooo F*#ken heavy. Even though it is. And it don't even have the troque it suppose to have? Can it be some air hose that is clog or what?

to go turbo, is a big step... Im taking it. I already purchased a rebuilt Garrett t3/t4. u can run boost on a stock engine without spending money on pistons and cams and etc. All matters is how much power you want. I will be runing 6 PSI on my turbo, and it is not a big turbo, so I should be fine. for the turbo you will need:

TurboCharger - $150 - $XXX (I got lucky for $170 shipped)
Header + Downpipe - eBay $200
exhaust - Brand Name about $400-500... Custom about $150-$200
intercooler + piping $300
injectors - $300
fuel pump - $100
Clutch + Flywheel - $250/$120 (Exedy/Fidanza)
Ecu - $200
tuning - $300-500

And much more, which will add up to me much more than 1K

so you are saying that i can run turbo with just stock internal or like just stock engine? And can only boost up to at least 6 psi?

u can boost a stock engine with stock internals as long as u dont run over 10 psi. Most common waste gates come with 5.8 psi springs. So I will be boosting after April. But be sure ur engine is healthy b4 boosting. Im thinking of doing my head gasket, t-belt, water pump, oil pump, and many other seals and little things before boosting.

and to raise boost later on, just get a boost controller or another spring for the waste gate.

where's twokex? he should be jumping all over this h23 turbo discussion

here's my two cents...don't turbo your car inless you DEFINITELY have the funds and then some. What can go wrong will probably go wrong. To avoid this make sure everything is done right the first time. Don't skemp on areas like tuning and fuel managment. This is where most of the problems that i've heard or seen go wrong i.e. running lean and premature detonation, and a host of nasty problems. I am not trying to be a negative ned, not at all. I want to see boost projects go big and tear up some rubber.

Also, if you want to go "homemade" turbo, a good book to read is "Maximum Boost" by Corkey Bell. Actually, before you boost no matter how you go about it you should read that book because it gives you a greater understanding of exactly how things coincide with each other. I am by NO means and expert or anything like that, I just have an engineer for a dad. So, the priniciple of doing it right has been impregnated in my head, eventhough I sometimes i don't abide by that rule.
