Correct install?

Hello all,

I've got a '93 SiVtec with a 5spd trans and 242K miles. Recently after hitting a pothole, I had a lot of vibration coming from what I thought was my front drivers side aftermarket rim. I thought a weight had been knocked off or that I bent it. Later, I heard clicking/knocking while turning and discovered that my axle shafts were bad.

I switched them out this past weekend with new ones and installed everything correctly.

Driving now, I'm still getting that vibration after I hit 60mph that doesn't smooth out until 80+mph.

My questions are:

What are symptoms of incorrect axle install? Could one of the front wheels be damaged (no weights fell off) and still causing the vibration? Could this vibration be caused by something else? I did use a impact gun to tighten the axle nuts back and haven't properly torqued them yet. Could they be too tight?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm thinking either:
- a bent wheel...sometimes not real obvious, especially if it's on the inner rim.
- a broken belt in the tire, if you hit the hole really hard. If you try to balance the wheel, it won't.
- wheel bearing

Re: Correct install?

X2 on the possible bent wheel.
You can balance an egg, but you'll never make it roll good.

My son had a bent wheel that wasn't wobbling, but kept losing air.
