H23a1 hesitation

Ok here goes,
I recently swapped a non vtec h23a1 in my 99 Honda Accord. Had the worst luck swapping it in but after 2 months finally managed to do it. Some things I did due to missing parts/missing funds. Deleted egr and evap system, and I havent hooked up the o2 sensor yet.
At the first few startups the idle would jump to 6000 rpm and come back down. I eventually figured out it was the idle air control valve and unplugged it. (The IACV is brand new)The problem now is the car hesitates so bad its more or less undrivable.
The motor came out of a 94 prelude si which had some front end damage. The motor however as I later came to find out was built in 2009. So its relatively new. Some things to note:
The only check engine light I have on is for IACV and o2 sensor, Im using a p14 Ecu which came off a 95 prelude si, the car is a manual, the plugs and wires came off my old motor which were both brand new, the coil is receiving 12 volts at all times, the injectors are 340 cc but I didnt realize this until after I bought them because someone ordered them for me but got h22 vtec injectors. Also the car had 87 fuel which I drained from the tank and put in 2 gallons of 93. At this point the pump was inspected and the strainer was noted as clean. Any suggestions would seriously help. Thanks again for any replies.

- clean injectors/iacv/egr/fitv
- bleed the coolant
- new pcv
- adjust valves and ignition
- adjust idle from tb's screw and throttle cable
- check does sensors work properly: map, iat and tps (and try calibrating tps)
- then check wires, connectors and hoses

check o2 sensors and vacuum/exhaust leaks (check all the seals - IM/header/TB gaskets, injector seals, maybe even buy valve cover gasket set...)
check timing. after that: double check timing

clogged cat might you give some trouble as well (usually when driving) - check cats condition

if none of these seem to work - do compression and leak tests
and if you have chipped ecu and youre running it just with basemap, it might not work as well than properly tuned one

those are basic maintenance as well.

Re: H23a1 hesitation

Thanks for the reply! So most of those have been changed. Seeing as how it's a new motor I would think some of this isn't applicable, i.e. Valve timing, pcv. I'm thinking vacuum leak because my brakes suck and the brake doesn't seem to be working. I do have a block off plate over the pcv valve. Injectors are brand new and so are wires and plugs. Dizzy cap and rotor seem fairly new as expected. Timing was triple checked and there is no cat, open flex pipe for now until I can drive it to the shop to have the new one welded on. Seals are new and I changed the intake manifold gasket with a brand new from Honda.iacv is brand new and Fitv was just cleaned and was also in good condition. Tps seems to be good,.51 closed 4.58 WOT. I'm wondering if it's the o2. Tried hooking it up and got code 41 which is currently my only code. I think I mixed up the black wires so I'll try that.

Sorry for the long post, just want this resolved already lol, it's been two months. Most of the sensors I checked already. I'm leaning towards either vacuum or injectors. They're 340cc which I didn't realize we're too big but it's whatever. I put the right size injectors and the car sounded like it was running on 1 cylinder. Any thoughts on that?

Re: H23a1 hesitation

Fixed it. There was a vacuum leak at the manifold and the brake booster hose was backwards so the check valve was reversed lol. This motor is amazing!

Re: H23a1 hesitation

I didn't know injector size went by generation lol. I know the h23a1 was 240 cc peak and hold and the h22 was 340cc. I think they're saturation type because there's no resistor box.
