Best tranny pairing with a 92 h23a1?

Hey guys I have a 92 with a h23 motor and may need a new manual tranny soon, I was wondering weather to stick with a h23 or if I could go h22 and also what are the benefits of one vs the other?

The H22 is a gutless engine in the lower RPMs, so the transmissions they are paired with have short gearing to get you into the high RPMs quickly, and keep you there.

The H23 has more of it's power down low to mid range, and runs out in the top end.

Personally, I liked the M2S4 transmission on my 96 Si. It went well with the H23A1.

Re: Best tranny pairing with a 92 h23a1?

I know the f series transmissions bolt up but have long ratios. It’s mainly a 4 speed with a highway gear. I think if you used a shorter m2s4 final gear the f23 transmission would be great for boost applications. If you’re going N/A I would say m2S4. All that being said I have the h23a1 with the m2S4 in my 99 accord but then again I got the motor and trans together. I contemplated the f23 but after running out of steam in 4th on my f23 I decided to stick with the prelude trans that came with the motor. From what I understand the M2s4 has pretty good gearing for top speed as well. Anyways, sorry for rambling lol.
