Good big brake kit...

I'm looking for a big brake kit for my 92 Honda prelude and I'm not finding much at all. I know someone here has upgraded their brakes. Whatcha got for me?

Re: Good big brake kit...

The only issues with those are that they don't allow you to use the parking brake

Re: Good big brake kit...

not if youre in front of them. if I was behind you I would be more worried if you had brakes because I would be like man I really hope this guy doesn't have good brakes and I crash into him

Re: Good big brake kit...

Big brake kit for the street? No need IMO. The stock brakes on the VTEC model Preludes are nice and relatively big, also cheap and bolt straight on. If you have an S/Si then swap the bigger stock brakes in and get a decent set of pads and that'll be more than enough to stop you in a hurry on street tires. If you want to drop $2k+ on a "proper" BBK then K-sport is pretty popular, but all you'll manage to do is make it easier to lock 'em up.

Re: Good big brake kit...

Hey, me too and me too. Probably would have been helpful if you led with that, looks like I skipped over that post. Why do you need a handbrake on a track car?

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Better heat management or more stopping power? I've found I've been able to help both issues on mine with decent pads, rotors, fluid and lines, but I'll still be running out of brakes after 6-10 hot laps. I've got more than enough stopping power to pull me up from 170kph down to 45kph in about 90m going into the hairpin on semi's, I run out of grip long before I run out of brakes. I was going to look at brake ducts to keep the temps down a bit more.

Have you thought about getting your own kit made up? Just need to buy some decent calipers (Wilwood etc), a larger rotor and then get an adaptor bracket fabbed up to suit. This is how I was thinking of tackling my eventual brake upgrade and would likely cost a lot less than one of the other kits mentioned.

Re: Good big brake kit...

Yea I should have led with that. Right now it's an every day driver but that gets less and less as time goes by.
