Weird Speedo Issue

Hey everyone... I have searched high and low and cannot seem to find anyone that has had the issue that I am having with my BB2
(H22A, Chipped P28).

So like most speedo issues I was driving home from work and my speedo stopped working. It would bounce around and go back to zero a few times. I home and checked the connections and everything looked fine. I reset the ECU and took it for a drive and it still was sitting at zero so I let it sit for the night.

When I left for work in the next morning everything was working again. When I go off work about 10 miles down the road the speedo crapped out again. I got home and let her cool down and replaced the vss. I took her for a drive and it was working again so I thought it was just the vss.

I go to work the next day and same thing it was fine in the morning and drops to zero after 10 miles of driving on the way home. So the vss was not the issue here.

The weird part is that vtec still works even with speedo at zero and and there are no CEL's. It runs and drives like nothing is wrong.

Could this be just the speedometer gauge that is going out? It appears that the ECU is still getting the signal from the vss since vtec still works, Im at a loss here.

Re: Weird Speedo Issue

you sure its not the vss? its a common issue that the bracket holding the vss breaks off and it becomes loose. itll start working when it finds its way back in and pop out again.

Re: Weird Speedo Issue

@M0B5TA - Yeah I had a spare vss laying around and switched them out but the same result. Its weird that it only happens after it has been driven for a while, Works normal in the mornings craps out at the end of day.

Re: Weird Speedo Issue

So it ended up being the sub cluster (Fuel/Water Temp) that was grounding out and causing everything on the same ground to act up.

I replaced the sub cluster and I have not had an issue with the speedo, sunroof, or interior dimmer after that.
