Smoke from wheel well

Hi,

Looking for a little guidance please. I have a 1992 Prelude that started smoking from the right wheel well area. I hired a mechanic who assessed the car and he replaced the following: calipers, pads & rotors (front and rear), tie rods, rack and pinion (loaded and not sure if I that is spelled correctly). So, it was all put back together and now the smoke is coming from the left wheel well. My mechanic's opinion is that it is a proportion valve that is causing the problem. The thing is it is a discontinued part. We will try and find it at a salvage yard but wanting to see if there is something else that could be causing this problem. Thank you!!!

Re: Smoke from wheel well

that should universal part. there has to be other Hondas with the same proportion valve. mine had an aftermarket adjustable one after deleting ABS.

Re: Smoke from wheel well

Brake proportioning valve? Is this a Prelude S (no ABS) or an Si (w/ ABS)? If it's an ABS-equipped car, there is no valve -- brake proportioning is handled by the ABS control unit and modulator. For a non-ABS car, you might try taking it off in running some brake cleaner through it to see if it frees up the mechanism, then reinstalling it with fresh brake fluid in the lines. As a last resort (and I emphasize last), you could get an adjustable proportioning valve, as used on race cars, but know that would require some very careful testing to get the settings right.
