So car was parked for a year finally got it to start and no vtec I checked wiring looks good solenoid clicks I do have a cel code 21. The oil light turned on I checked oil at block 0 at idle it does go up when you rev. Checked oil at head 0 at idle and does not go up when you rev I think my cousin said its like 10psi at 5k not sure. this is probably why vtec don't work right please help Do I need new oil pump

Keep doing that and you'll need a new engine.

Keep doing what? I revd it only to see if it had any pressure at all but it doesn't. Do you think oil pump would fix this. I'm scared though it's probably been low for ever

Re: Oil pump or what please help

How are you noticing that there is no VTEC unless you are driving it past 5000 rpm's? I'm not positive but pretty sure if the CEL is on then the computer will shut down VTEC to prevent further failure or breakage of parts since it is already noticing a problem. What is the code for? Does it have proper amount of oil. The oil pump on these cars are a solid metal mechanical mechanism that spin with the crank and they usually always outlast the life of the car. Only reason people usually change them is when doing a H22A swap because it does not have the crank sensor mounting on it but other than that. The oil pumps barely ever go bad. I'm assuming also that if it was bad or broken in any way it would be making a horrible noise and you would defiantly know. You may have some kind of blockage somewhere. maybe check the oil pick-up screen inside the pan first before you go ripping out the oil pump with is a pretty big job, especially with the motor still in the car.

Re: Oil pump or what please help

Thanks for replying. There's no cel only when you try hitting vtec. I havent driven her hard only when i first got it to start which is when i noticed the problem. pretty sure it's code 21.I cleaned the solenoid and everything but nothing. I have herd of the oil pick up being clogged but would this cause it to have 0psi. Also how hard is it to remove and clean what's best way
