EFJ's 4th Gen Re-build/Upgrade

Ok here it goes. I live in South Africa and I have a 4th gen prelude that I want to re-build/upgrade (I am no professional mechanic but know my way around cars and DIY a lot). One of my challenges is that here gen4 prelude parts are scarce and importing is very expensive due to the rand not been so strong, so this build will take some time to reach the end result I am aiming for. I use the car as a daily driver alternatively to my BMW X5. I want to dress the body up first before I do any engine mods (not looking for a racer). I will post some pics of how it currently looks but nothing special at the moment. It has a JDM F22B DOHC motor which runs ok. A double DIN DVD player with a 10 inch pioneer sub and pioneer 6x9's. Oh it comes with an auto gearbox as well.

I have done a lot of reading on different builds and setups till my eyes have gone 'cross eyed'. I don't know where to start but looking at body kits etc.

Any suggestions would be nice or even ideas.

I will post my ideas with pics and questions (and there is a few) later on.

Re: EFJ's 4th Gen Re-build/Upgrade

That's a pretty clean looking 4th gen you got there.
IMO, I would stay away from those wheels, body kit, and headlight brows in the last picture.

Good luck with your build and keep us posted!

Got a quote on KONI yellow sports and H&R coils for about a 40mm drop. Going to cost around $1100. Think this will be my first purchase.

You probably wanna take a look at ground controls coil first. I have the same setup but with ground control coils. It is the best because of life time warranty and give you any adjustment of height.

Re: EFJ's 4th Gen Re-build/Upgrade

My advice, go for what you really like, follow your heart. The pic you posted it is NOT body kit. It is lip kit like the idea what I have. The wheels on it is legitimate. Eyelids on it make it look good. It is just someone's opinion and not yours.

Ground control coils, is that not coil overs? I take all suggestion as a fresh look that lead to good ideas. I have a look in mind, not exactly the same as the pic but my own combo of things.

Re: EFJ's 4th Gen Re-build/Upgrade

The nice thing with KONI sports are that they are height adjustable by increments of 10mm. So if the coils are not low enough I just get another set or even cut the old set. I am sure there is other ideas so still looking.

Oh I think you are referring to the coil adjustment springs that can be used on normal shocks. There is a lot of them on ebay.

IMO, i think it looks kind of ricy.

No body kit, no headlight brows, and a set of enkei or light weight rims.

But hey, its your prelude, its your choice.

Have you considered BC Racing BR Type coilover? They will cost you ~$1000.

Heres the link to the ground control adjustment coils

Ground Control - Coilover Conversion kit, 1992-2001 Honda Prelude

this ground control coils are the best so you can adjustment height to match your liking better than stuck with lowering springs at one height that you probably not happy and top of that, it come with lifetime warranty. Also you can research about spring rate how soft or stiff you like for your ride comfortable. If you want to get ground controls, you'll need to pay very attention because ground controls have to build correct coils design for Koni yellows.

Here are the link to the Koni yellows.

KONI NA | List

Koni Yellows are the best too because it come with lifetime warranty and adjustment damper from soft to stiff level to match your liking. My advice, get the konis straight from their factory in order to have lifetime warranty. Buying Konis from eBay probably will void the warranty because eBay sellers aren't authorized reseller. It apply to Ground Controls warranty too so buy them straight from their factory to have lifetime warranty.

I had GC/Koni setup and I love them but I bought front koni new but thru unauthorized reseller meaning warranty voided and bought GC used second hand which can't use warranty. I currently use ksports one piece coilovers temporary till I have enough money to buy front koni and GC brand new straight from their factories to have lifetime warranty so I can sell ksports to get my $ back.

As for BC coilovers, I haven't experience it myself BUT I heard they are the best one piece coil overs out there but it only come with 12-18 months warranty tho.

Re: EFJ's 4th Gen Re-build/Upgrade

Thanks for the reply guys. Also thanks for the link to the GC site. I will be buying the KONI's from an authorized distributor here in SA. Just don't know if someone locally supply's GC's here but will have a look around. I know buying from ebay can be risky hence been on PZ so that you guys can show me in the right direction. Thanks.

Actually tried KONI coilovers but they are double the price. As for the other brands we are quite limited with options here in SA. So importing is the way to go but very expensive and a lot of sellers don't ship to SA. Just to give you an idea, I bought and item for 68$ and cost close to 140$ import costs etc.
