Prelude1986 is on a distinguished road

Hi Luders
Am not tech savy so please forgive me. Any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
I bought a 1996 Honda Prelude with a F22b engine.
I noticed while driving at high speeds the check engine light would come on. Recently the car refused to start and I thought was a simple electrical problem but my mechanic advised that I change the distributor. Upon changing for myself the car started but died after driving a few feet. I replaced same again and the car is starting fine but when accelerated it will shut off. It is now starting .Can driving blow or damage the replaced distributor? Is there a code to reset? Please help.
