New owner of 94 prelude!

Hi guys, I just purchase a 94 prelude S. Bought it for 600$. Owner said it just broke down and have up on it, bit has been sitting for 2 years. So it needed a lot of work. When I first bought it (2 days ago) it ran perfectly fine for 20+ miles and in the middle of the highway to work, it completely shuts off.no warning of sowing or anything, Just completely shuts off, no check engine light or anything, and when I try to start it again, it would start into after a while. At first it was something electrical, so I researched and assumed it was the ignition switch. So I took it apart and sanded down the rusted metal contacts on the switch. Started and ran for a mile then completely cuts off again, so trying to start it again, a check engine light finally pooped up. Checked it and it came out to a bad distributor. Replaced and now it works perfect! So basically after a new battery and distributor. The car only costed me 1000$ just for a car to get around. I do need to buy new tires. Hopefully this weekend.

But I have one last issue. My fuel and temp meters are black, so light or anything. I search online for a replacement but it is expensive! I was wondering if I can wire in a gas meter, and temp pod instead of buying a new one? I don't know if there is any technicso things I need to be aware of since the meters are electronics (I'm assuming) I read that the clusters for the gas/temp gauges fries out easily. So I might as well buy pods to save myself from buying them over and over again.

I have a used cluster i'd sell that works perfectly. I am building a circle track car and don't need mine.

Re: New owner of 94 prelude!

If you're tech savvy here's a link to a post to fix the 4th gen gas/temp gauge.

http://www.preludeaustralia.com/foru...Fix-(with-Pics)

I just fixed mine the other day no problem.

Beats spending around $70 for a "new" one, that typically will have the same issue sooner than repairing one. Reason being.. While your car is turned on, the capacitors on the circuit board for the gas/temp gauge like to swell up over time and start to leak onto the board and will corrode the traces on the board. But if your solder new capacitors on which are like 25 cents, you'll have a gas temp gauge that will last approximately another 20+ years vs buying a used board that has capacitors on it that are already around 20 years old and likely to go soon.

Let me know if you need help if you choose to DIY.

ps. Welcome to PZ
