Icon5 OEM or to not OEM? (PCV Valve)

Hello Forum,

1993 Si (2.3L)

So I replaced the PCV Valve and grommet a while back and turns out it isn't performing up to par. Oil seems to be leaking through the valve/grommet location. I purchased a PCV valve from Autozone (I know. I know. Mistake.). I remember watching one Eric The Car Guy video and he said that Hondas usually don't do well to PCV Valves that aren't OEM.

Question: Has anyone had any luck using a non OEM PCV Valve? (I know I'm being cheap but the project budget is getting a bit tighter than I expected so I'm trying to save a dollar or two where I can.)

Re: OEM or to not OEM? (PCV Valve)

Did you put a dab of oil on the grommet before seating it? Coulda split it if not.
Is it seated all the way in? The pcv works or it don't. But the grommet shouldn't be leaking either way.
I had a pcv completely stopped up with goo, but the grommet didn't leak oil. Me thinx your grommet is the issue.

If you haven't already, remove the grommet, clean the grommet and the orifice clean, clean, clean, then wipe a bit of oil on the grommet and re-fasten it to the valve cover. If that don't work, suck it up and give your Honda dealer $5 for a genuine Honda one.
If you're having to cheap out on a $5 grommet, you should not be driving a 22 year old sportscar.

First off, just wanna say thanks to 5ThGeaRedLined for answering my question.
Second, just wanna say it's condescending assholes like bykfixer that ruin the point of sites like these by attacking the genuinely interested and less experienced. That's what forums are for, to spread knowledge amongst users with a common interest! If OEM was the only answer for everything, there'd be no need for this site!

Re: OEM or to not OEM? (PCV Valve)

if you were talking about spending a few hundred on new oem axles vs auto store axles then yea there would be legit answer because the price is very different but comparing differences of a few dollars..

Re: OEM or to not OEM? (PCV Valve)

So the fact that I explained how to FIX THE ONE YOU HAVE NOW complete with a diagram offends you....

They told me when I first got started I should be forced to give away my tools. I didn't get all whiney and complain nor call them names. Nope instead I took it as a challenge, learned the hard way what they were talking about and have spent about 6000 of my posts trying to help the young get going. But if that help aint appreciated, best of luck buddy-row.

And I'll say it again...if you don't have an extra $5 to install a good part vs a $1.99 part you should not be trying to build a 22 year old sports car. That's not trying to be mean..it's the truth.

Guess you'd rather I said what you wanna hear?
Ebay...how about that. Get all them parts off ebay. But don't come back here asking for advice when your 99 oil pressure sensor fails or your $14 coil overs fall apart.

You're right...this used to be an enthusiast site.
But now it's getting clogged with "fix my car for me cheap or free 'cause I don't have no money and don't wanna do any research" threads by the dozen...including this one!

It's funny, through Soflaakids sig I found this thread.
$5 grommet? Sounds like a deal Seeing I drive a car from 2004, and there are 0 parts for it. ZERO. The integer that represents nothing. If it wasnt for the powerplant compatibilities, id be sh*t out of luck. BUT cross referencing numbers without diagrams is equally frustrating.

Bykfixer gave you what you wanted on a silver platter. And yes, people want the Vatozone repairman special for free and it urks me cause us, "The enthusiasts", never see your narrow asses again. Learning journey over. So enjoy the Freebie Im flaggin this
