Sun visor replacements/fix?

Hi there so for my first car my dad and I landed a 94 prelude in very nice condition. It's super great and all but the fold down visors are taken off cause theyre kind of messed up

First off they flap down instantly and refuse to go back up, also on the driver side if I try to move it to the left to cover my side window, it just falls out.

So would anyone know some possible fixes for this? (fixes, not necessarily weird work arounds)

Or alternately, what could I put in for replacement ones? I found a 97 prelude set of visors but Im not entirely sure if they'd fit. But Im thinking maybe an accords set of visors would work? but not entirely sure.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Sun visor replacements/fix?

Welcome to prelude zone.

Certainly sounds like you've landed a dandy of a car. Have you considered trying to install those visors from the 97?

Unfortunately with the Prelude, there are some parts that were only made for the prelude. Sunvisors were one of those things. And in your case they only made yours for the 93/94 cars.
But fear not young padowan...lots of acura cars litter the junkyards near you. So do civics and accords. You may luck up and stumble onto an old broken 4g prelude.

Now junkyards are typically funny about carrying in an old part to compare. Aint figured that one out yet, but they are. So in your case, get a piece of paper, measure the distance between the visor sides where the screws mount. Write that on the piece of paper. On same paper draw around your current visor. Fold it up, carry it to your nearby junkyard and use as a template to compare to other cars.
The trick is probably the distance between the mounting screws more than the size of the visor itself.
I have found a bunch of the not so old acura cars at junkyards share very similar parts with the prelude interior...overhead lamps, ashtrays, rear view mirrors, stuff like that.

Best of luck, and happy junkyarding!!

edit:
Almost forgot, try car-part.com for some genuine used prelude visors if your junkyard is a strike out. You can always spray 'em with duplicolor for vinyl to match your car.

Re: Sun visor replacements/fix?

Replace, don't bother trying to fix them. I tried to repair mine which had done the same thing. I ended up cutting one in half to see if I could repair the other one. The visor relies on a flimsy plastic L-shaped rod to grip onto the visor wrapped around it, and after a few thousand operations they simply sag then snap. I couldn't see a way to fix glue the old piece back together without gluing it to the rest of the visor or having it snap again immediately.

It looks as though new ones are discontinued from Honda, I'm not surprised really. You could always try and pick up a set from a wrecker, but I'd be dubious since they're not likely to be in any better condition than your own. Also, the brackets for sun visors seem to be practically identical in nearly every car I've bothered to look in, just find something similar looking if you have no luck finding the proper ones.
