ecu question.

I have a ao1 ecu with a chip with my turbo base tune. Can I swap ECU out of my 92 f22a1? I know the ecu is for an f22b. I was going to Frankenstein my lude with a f22b head but I feel for power and weight sake I'll be better building the f22a head

Re: ecu question.

Okay can someone atleast recommend a ecu to use on a turbo F22a? IRS a p14 which isn't working now. What came in the car which is wrong....should I go with a chipped p12 or is there a better choice???

Re: ecu question.

^^ no offense...but when you start swapping and tuning and 'frankenstein-ing' your engine you have to be prepared for the inevitable issues and know how to go about finding out the info to solve it.
Asking "what do I need to do?" is likely going to go unanswered anymore. The few folks who know the answers are either driving Acura TL cars and Toyota Tundras, or just don't feel like answering the same question for the ump-teenth time.

Try the Honda-Tech site or CB7 tuners.

Re: ecu question.

I didn't change anything. Trying to fix previous owners mistakes. I wasn't clear. I just got my prelude on the road. Had a cel for knock sensor. I know a f series doesn't have them. Checked ecu its a p14. Ran vin..its an si model not an s. Someone swapped motors but not ECUs. I'm turboing the car any ways so I'm buying an ecu.. I'm driving daily right now and that knock sensor makes my car run terrible. For the sake of saving 100 bucks on an ecu I'll use for a month can I use a VTEC f series ecu with less issues then a ecu with knock senor??

Re: ecu question.

So what do you have now? A F22B or a F22A1? A USDM F22A1 should have a P12 ECU and a JDM F22B should have a P39. If you aren't frankensteining or building the motor much then stick with the intended ECU, otherwise throw in a chipped something-or-other and just disable the knock sensor.

The P14 (off a H23) is a common choice to run a F22B with the Accord guys since the maps are a lot closer to what it needs than the P12, they just tap in a knock sensor in and Bob's your mother's brother.

It's not a long-term solution putting the ECU from a F22A1 on a F22B, for one it has a much lower redline, but it was also only designed for SOHC. It might do in the very very short term if you don't have to spend any money on it. The maps will be all messed up though.

If you're chipping it then your best bet is to start looking at what chip you want to run, be it Hondata, Crome, Neptune etc. and talk to some local tuners to see if there is anything they prefer. There are a bunch of options available for non-vtec motors but (i think) none of the ECU's mentioned above can be socketed so you'd end up with another one anyway, I think they all prefer a P06.

Re: ecu question.

^^ cool of you to step in tassie.

Sometimes I see a question go unanswered for a few days, and when I can help I do. But I slept through the tuning seminar.
So instead I try to offer some alternative source for the questioner to check in hopes 'bumping' the thread to the top may pique somebody's interest who does know. If not the person asking the question will hopefully find the answer...even if it's at another site.

Re: ecu question.

I have a stock usdm f22a1 which is how its staying. I understand I need a chipped ecu and have that lined up. I'm just asking if I can use the VTEC f series ecu I know its not right but will it work better then the p14? It really pisses me off when someone does a swap and half asses it...
