automatic 1993 prelude shifting problems

I have an automatic 1993 Honda Prelude SI
When the car is in park, if I shift straight into d4, its still in neutral. So I have to go into d3 first, then push it up into d4. Also if its in reverse, and I put it in neutral straight from reverse, it will still be in reverse until I shift back and fourth.

Its not a huge problem for me but I'd like to fix the problem so I can sell the car and get a manual prelude.

Somebody told me it might have something to do with the shift linkages or something but im not exactly sure

Re: automatic 1993 prelude shifting problems

Is there anything wrong with it besides the tranny? Because if not you could always do a swap with a manual transmission and gain a little bit of power over the S engine (h23 swap from an SI, or h22 swap).

IMO if the prelude is clean and works good, there aren't a lot of clean bodied ludes out there anymore. engine swaaaaaap! Or rebuild the tranny.

Definitely sounz like a linkage thing or something at either the shifter end or tranny end is amiss..
