Adjustable Cam Gear Timing

Folks, I installed some Crower stage 1 cams today in a 93 H23A1, non-vtec.
The instructions stated that the cam has 4 degrees of advance ground into it.
I assume this means I need to also advance the cam gear timing 4 degrees, or more? I put it together with stock timing marks, it runs but pretty crappy. Won't rev up, some back firing, poor idle. I don't have adjustable cam gears, can I try advancing the gears one or two teeth in respect to the belt? Hoping this will improve things. Advice wanted. Comments appreciated. Thx.

Re: Adjustable Cam Gear Timing

Well to follow up, it seems it can't be done with stock cam gears. Tried adjusting the gears one tooth forward and back off stock timing marks. No go. So now I am on the look out for some used cam gears, adjustable.

Awfully quiet around here it seems. Nobody with any experience own Preludes any more?
