F22a1 balance shaft seal question

Was searching around the engine trying to find coolant leaks so my brother took off the timing belt cover and turns out the water pump is leaking pretty bad so we decided just replace everything since I don't believe that the guy I bought it from really did replace the timing belt recently. I have a 1992 Prelude S f22a1, I was reading reviews of kits and one mentioned that the balance shaft seal was recalled on the f-series engines and that you need to get a brace, the only one I can find is DORMAN/HELP part # 917-006 but the O'rielys website says that it wont fit my engine. So I am curious if I actually need this or is my year engine not part of the recall?

Re: F22a1 balance shaft seal question

Technically, '92s weren't covered by the recall, but they did suffer the same failures on both the F- and H-series engines. Honda calls the part an oil seal retainer -- P/N 06923-P0A-306 -- but I can see where other places may call it a brace. Basically, it's a piece of metal that bolts to the oil pump housing and folds over to hold the oil seal in place. Look up Honda TSB 00073 for details (including pictures) and installation instructions.

Re: F22a1 balance shaft seal question

As far as I can tell, it's the same part number across all three (F22, H23, H22) engines.
