Cooling system flush.

Hi. I am going to be installing a new idle air control valve next week and my brother noticed that my cooling system is full of gunk and really dirty. Before installing a brand new iacv i was wondering if I should do a full cooling system flush, what could get messed up if anything? And if so is there a good flush I should buy that works really well?

Re: Cooling system flush.

Hello! I'm in the middle of a full coolant swap using prestone flush+radiator cleaner. Why I chose this 8$ish cleaner was cause it was the only one there at parts store.....THAT and it had a "deep clean" few day instructions. I'll let you know how it goes today once I drain my radiator.

**** side story... the first time I ever did it on my first jeep cherokee was with some 3$ napa cleaner and it worked hella good....it clogged some line with some random piece of plastic lol. BUT hey after removing and unclogging said clog I NEVER saw any debree again.

But to answer your question, yes I'd flush it first just because. Now unless there's something major in your cooling fluid to clog up something along the way.. than usually no, there's no harm from what I've personally experienced.
