The Nightmare begins - Locked Drivers Door

My 94 Si, driver side door will not unlock, I've looked on youtube, but the only references I've seen are to Accord locking mechanisms.

Apparently, once when/if i get my door open the logical thing would be to replace the defective part.

Any reference material on parts and procedures would be welcomed.

I'm not a pro, so take it easy on me ... lol

Al

Re: The Nightmare begins - Locked Drivers Door

I just did this(tonight) on my '94 that i just got. After removing the door panel, plastic over latch access hole, window track and outer door handle. What i ended up doing (after searching for hours through different fixes and style latches) was just grabbing my trusty Unibit, and my brushless dewalt (has a small enough head to fit in the door.) Basically i just drilled and drilled until there was nothing left and got down to the latch wheel and pawl. If i had drilled just one big hole in the proper spot i could have released the pawl with not much work, however there are limited images on the inside of this latch. there are only 3 screws holding in the latch, you want to drill about 1.5 inches over from the bottom screw(the screw which holds in the latch), and drill out enough to be able to trigger the pawl with a screw driver.

Good Luck. Take your time and just keep drilling. Get a real Irwin or other brand name unibit. It is expensive bit but is worth its weight in gold.

Re: The Nightmare begins - Locked Drivers Door

Thanks 530Nismo, I guess i could estimate the screw location by measuring up from the other door? so Ive got to ask, how you remove the door panel with the door closed?

Re: The Nightmare begins - Locked Drivers Door

Sorry guys, my door panel was removed already when i bought the car haha. They did break the plastic right around the lower left screw, but no real visible damage. I have had to do this before on other cars and all i can say is patience, and possibly remove the drivers seat.
