Best transmission choice?

What would be the best transmission for an h series to get the best acceleration and reliability?

Re: Best transmission choice?

List of Honda gearbox ratios in the link below. Higher number = shorter gear

Prelude/H-series Transmission Codes and Ratios master-list - Honda-Tech

If you want even shorter gears to increase acceleration you can fit an aftermarket final drive.

Re: Best transmission choice?

It depends on your long term plans...
If yer gonna stick with that non vtec engine, stick with the tranny too.

If your goal is to run red light to red light with the teggy dummies you might consider lsd internals. But if you just wanna zoom down country roads with more zoom out of the curves, then what you have already (presuming you have the M2S4 5 speed) is just fine...
If you want highway use, the accord type will get you up to cruising with lower rpms and more top end speed...at the cost of take off thump...

Re: Best transmission choice?

The gearing of the H23 gearbox is much longer than in H22 gearboxes. Swapping to an H22 gearbox will allow the car to accelerate quicker. If the OP is chasing quicker acceleration staying with the H23 gearbox is not the way to go.

Re: Best transmission choice?

Hmmm..yeah yer right Merlin. Dislexia on my end. Seems to be a popular choice with some turbo folks if op goes that way...and reportedly at 3rd gear jolts the Lude past the Teggy for those 1/8 mile strips.

I suppose it's ok for mpg except the 5th being the same..

The F22 tranny M2J4 is the one with all that extra acceleration I suppose. But aint that a JDM only unit? As in not readily available...

^^ check this thread mr construction4th.
From the Lindso part down...
Click on the links and decide which is best for your long term goals. Like Merlin said check out the numbers.

The M2J4 looks pretty poor IMO. The USDM M2F4 gear box is shorter in every gear when compared to the M2J4. The M2F4 should be easy enough to get hold of?

You could just about build an M2F4 with a MFactory 4.64 final drive and at least a Quiafe or MFactory diff for that price, plus have better ratio's and have a better final drive.

Re: Best transmission choice?

Should have explained my goals better. I like going to the strip occasionally and want to make some Honda haters mad at red lights. Looking for what ever trans is going to give me the fastest acceleration but isn't going to break or cost a fortune. What trans would be best for quarter mile times and 0-60?

Re: Best transmission choice?

M2b4 or t2w4 because of lsd, so if you ever strip an axle youll still be okay to drive. Getting out of snow and dirt would be improved also. Imo other h22 trannys are all pretty much almost the same and u wont feel the difference unless its h2b

Re: Best transmission choice?

Yeah I could swap to an h22 with trans for 2000-3000 depending on what exactly I get. Or I could spend 2-3k on a decent turbo kit and tune but not sure if that'd be a lot faster without risking blowing it up.
