Couple things on 94 Prelude Si

Hey guys im new here, but to the point. I recently purchased a 94 prelude SI from my brother inlaw. The engine was replaced back around 2004ish and it has a H23A in it now. My first problem that Im not to sure about is my speedometer sometimes likes to "jump". It jumps usually 10-20 MPH faster than I am driving and if I stop at a red light it'll stay around 20 MPH. Not really sure what would do that other than a loose connection somewhere but I am unsure where the sensors are located. Secondly, im not sure if this ones a common problem or not but it sometimes doesn't like to stay running. This doesn't happen all that much but I turn the key and it starts fine but idles low and dies if I don't romp on the gas pedal pretty good. Almost seems like an injector is sticking but also maybe a low idle sensor? Ive tried using Sea Foam injector cleaner and it seemed to have helped for a month or so then it started again. I know there have been a couple of mods to the car I.E. stereo system that my in-law did and am not sure if anything could pertain to that. I haven't had this car long and it seemed to have always had these problems, it don't help I don't know jack about the car i'm more of a diesel mechanic but I'd like someone who knows these cars and engines to help me out and get this figured out. Also my abs light is on, once again not sure if that would help any. Thanks guys!

Re: Couple things on 94 Prelude Si

VSS is located on the tranny, firewall side, has 2 power steering hoses coming off of it from the crossmember. one harness, and one bolt, kind of looks like a triangle. under the intake, under the egr area. chances are the speedo itself went bad, or someone opened the cluster up and messed up the needles. unless the problem just started.

as for the idle, go to the DIY section on the forum, there is a thread called the final idle thread, find it and follow the writeup to fix that issue.

I agree with the above post. Probably speedo related because of the needle sticking at 20 at a stop. Bad VSS isnt likely to do that.

Thanks guys. It seems like its a loose connector since it only happens sometimes and thats usually after a long drive. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and I'll check out that thread.
