need my 94 prelude faster!

alright ill start off by saying my 1994 prelude needs to be faster no i dont want it to be the fastest in the world nor enough power to eat everything in the car up it has:
headers
exaust
fuel rail
short ram intake
275cc injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump
chip (does absolutely nothing just thought id add that in there)
and im pretty sure it has a swapped ecu not sure on that one though
it is a h23 motor and i need to be quicker im wanting like 250 at the wheels is that at all possible for a grand or less without grenading the motor? (motor has 144k original miles)

Just... No.

If you have $1k to spend then put it towards a decent ECU and a tune.

Re: need my 94 prelude faster!

Your poor old H23 with 144k miles MIGHT be putting out around 130hp at the wheels with the mods you have if they're decent brands (you didn't mention), also assuming the motor has been taken care of and maintained properly. A cheap eBay header, crush bent exhaust and a SRI will probably give no gains at all, and the fuel system mods won't do anything on the stock tune either. A grand will buy you a decent header and a proper intake, but this will give you about +10hp. If the mods you have are good then a good ECU might get you another 10.

Honda motors are very good out of the box, and the H-series is notorious for being very difficult to get extra ponies out of. If you want 250hp at the wheels then you'll need many many more thousand dollars.

Re: need my 94 prelude faster!

I have recently come to the same conclusion. Read a lot of threads as I want to race my 96 h22 in a mini stock class on a 4/10 th mile asphalt oval. Want mo' power! Realized I would do better to move my bolt on parts from one engine to another as they blow up instead of spending $5 to $10 grand on an awesome build and still have it blow up ( with my luck anyway) seems Honda has got 85% of the potential of these engines right out of the box and those extra HP become real pricey. Gonna put my limited racing funds into tires and suspension components.

Re: need my 94 prelude faster!

lol you can try to do a h22 swap but you got to try to do everything cheap and do it yourself. i had bought a whole car for 1000 with a jdm h22 with accord 5spd tranny with a few bolt on parts and i parted out the car and made my money back, which obviously took time, but i also spent extra into freshening up the engine. thats your best bet but you still wont have 250hp. seems like you got a lot of research to do!

Re: need my 94 prelude faster!

If it's an h23 non vtec I'd say get an h22 vtec head for it for the biggest hp gain. Also you'll have much more aftermarket parts available if you have an h22 head. Then the h22 trans because the gear ratio is smaller than the h23 trans. Won't add more power but will accelerate faster.

Geez, that is some ashtray.
Hopefully it don't turn off the car suddenly, causing car to burst into flames because of a wiring defect they knew about, but hid for the last 6 years...
